Okay, so I know EVERYBODY is going to say this:
SORA
RIKU
AXEL
ROXAS
KAIRI/XION
You cannot just state the obvious- Sora is the main character, he's done sooo much to earn this position...blahblahblah!!!
Okay, say something meaningful, only rule: You can't say that Sora or Roxas is your favorite, because everybody <3s Sora & Roxas.... Who's your fave, top five, what they have done for Sora or KH series, and why you adore them??????
:I don't really like this "rule" thing, what if they legitimately are my favorite characters? Well, as it so happens, they aren't. I'll bite. Aqua is. Mostly because she is the first real female protagonist & one of the most competent Keyblade Wielders yet. She was the only one to emerge from the Keyblade Graveyard battle unscathed, then fought the newly revitalized Xehanort to a standstill, & THEN survived in the Realm of Darkness for a decade. But she doesn't just fight, she also emotes; showing concern for Terra & Ventus & frustration that Eraqus didn't trust them. Basically, she's a well-rounded character who isn't told to just stay at home AND actually succeeds at her missions, which is a real breath of fresh air for the franchise. That's not to say that I hate Kairi, Namine, & Xion. Kairi's a decent character, she just hasn't been able to do much, because she's been treated as a non-action character in an action game until now. Namine, being Kair's Nobody, is also decent & has this interesting element with being a manipulator for the greater good. Xion is an annoying, ham-fisted retcon, who while supposedly an action protagonist spends most of her time losing, & yet at the same time robs Roxas of his spotlight in "his" game. Still, I do find her likeable when they aren't constantly making her the center of everything. And that's also not to say that I just like Aqua because she's a girl. Most of the male characters are either awesome or at least have their moments, but Aqua brings something to the table that they don't. She doesn't brood & act sarcastic all of the time like Riku, she's not naive like Sora & Ventus, & on a gameplay note, the combination of acrobatics & focus on magic is pretty clever. The fact that she became my best character in BBS certainly doesn't hurt her case either. As for Top 5? 1. Aqua, obviously. 2. Master Xehanort, because I like mastermind-type villains. 3. Marluxia, because he was the first really scheming villain before the Xehanort retcon & I like his flower/death motifs. 4. Mickey, because he's crazy awesome in Kingdom Hearts. 5. Namine, for reasons previously stated. Roxas & Riku would be around 4 & 5, if I could state them. So, there's my answer, believe it or not in the pithiest way that I can manage to say it. Sorry that I haven't responded in so long, I just haven't had a chance to....
I really like that Aqua is your favorite. She is the only real action-type female character that isn't completely helpless and/or useless...... My favorite character would have to be..... Axel. I really like his personality, and they really bring it out in Days. I have to say that he helps Roxas way more than Xion, and was his first friend in the Organization XIII. I like how they designed him, meaning his hair, his chakrams,(I hope I spelled that right) his element matching his personality and hair. I also like his backstory as Lea. MY top 5 would be...
5. Terra, because he is awesome in my opinion
4. Namine, I like how she seems to be the "little girl" character that Roxas crushes on.
3. Mickey, like you said, crazy awesome.
2. Riku, Riku is super important to the story, Sora, and Kairi, I think that they're the perfect trio.

:Cool. Axel's fun, I just have a thing for kind of more cerebral characters. Like, with Riku, he can be kind of dull, but he has that really detailed fall into villainy & quest for redemption. I also like how they purposefully make his personality distinct from Sora's even as he becomes more like him. I kind of disqualified the Disney & Final Fantasy characters, because I associate them primarily with Disney & Final Fantasy, & that's where most of their characteristics come through. As far as VII goes, I actually always liked Vincent & Aerith a bit more than Cloud.
