Editing Forum:To Merge, or not to Merge

Let me guess: You didn't read it, did you? Go back and read it. Done yet? Good.

So it seems clear that the administration of the Kingdom Hearts Wikia has given clear opinion on not merging. They are holding a vote for their users and their users alone.

The reasons given for a merge being pointless include the supposedly huge number of new users the wikia has seen, the creation of several different new pages, and gallery and quotes projects, which are apparently highly more impressive than any of our new pages, our lower number of new users, and our walkthrough project.

Kryten gives pretty much my exact opinions in [http://pastebin.com/Z26juRG6 this log]. Firstly, he states that the majority of new users don't return to be editors. While there are quite a few gems such as KyoWolfe, LegendAqua, and Final Rest, the majority of new users have barely contributed anything. In addition, these new pages that have been created would, for the most part, be kept when ported over here. Furthermore, we have our own new pages as well. Lastly, the gallery and quotes pages are fantastic and would work really well if implemented with our tabs idea that, let's face it, isn't going to happen on any Wikia due to the limits of their own skins, forced upon by an evil corporation.

Sox argues that it will be near impossible to direct most readers to the new site, and that we will get little traffic. DE argues that the idea of a encyclopedia and a fansite in collaboration didn't work when we first tried it, so it wouldn't work any better now either.

But I would say that there are more reasons to merge than ever before. Here are several:

*There is no point at all in having two wikis that have the same info and same target userbase. Each wiki has their own set of readers, so why keep them separate?
*We left Wikia for a reason: to escape from the stranglehold that their skins and pointless restrictions placed upon us. At .net we have freedom to do exactly what we please, and I think that the idea of tabs would help clear clutter off the tops of the pages as well as encourage readers to delve into the fantastic quotes and gallery pages. It would also be very aesthetically pleasing.
*In the event of the merge the majority of the administration of the Wikia would still be in charge, and thus would not be losing anything in terms of running a wiki. They would get to work alongside additional administration that are just as dedicated as they are. This would also make their jobs easier.
*Our walkthroughspace has plenty of room for users who have wanted to write a walkthrough but never had a chance, or have wanted help. Working as a collaborative effort towards these walkthroughs ensures that they will be completed and be of the utmost quality.
*I love all of you guys, both on .net and on the wikia. Why should our communities be separate? We all have the same goal, we share the majority of the same content. We have the same interests; I've got more in common with just about all of you users than I do with 90% of the people I know in the real world. A house divided cannot stand.
*It will be a lot of work to tackle the re-merging, but we went through an audit, and I have right to believe that with a collaborative effort from our entire communities that can stand split no more, we shall overcome this task. It will be hard, but if we make it through the possibilities are endless. We cannot back down; we have to try!

<!---Fucking hell, here we go.--->I find it pointless to have this vote here, really.  I our community almost entirely wants to join with theirs, due mostly to our almost completely insured demise if we don't.  As such, our nearly whole hearted plea won't do much against theirs, as ours can continue it, while theirs can stop it.

Also, I would like to point out that, if I haven't already made it clear, the current "ideas" for the merge are very one sided.  Most of the discussion has been dominated by us, and we seem to want to stiffle the usage of the Keyhole's content prominently wherever it should be  featured.
