Editing Forum:Talkbubble Templates and User Images

Or must they be linked through Photobucket? Also, wasn't there a max of seven talkbubble images for user talk templates? This really hasn't been a problem (that I recall) until now. I am in no way being trying to be mean or "step on any toes," but something must be done. Please see:

I know making/using talkbubbles can be fun and all but there has to be a limit. Users will never use all those talkbubbles, plus the coding is insane.

As of late there has been an increase in user images (that break the image policy). There was a discussion about this problem earler; see [[Forum:User Images|here]].

If you'll look through the User Images category, you'll find numerous images that aren't being used/break the image policy/not needed/should be uploaded through Photobucket.

This has been a growing problem as of late, and I've yet to find a rule saying what is and is not allowed. I have nothing against a user having a couple of images on their userpage or a few on their talktemplate, but there has to be a limit.}}

I disagree with you on the matter of talk bubbles. It's not like having a lot of talk bubbles is bad, and if you think about it, it doesn't violate the rules at all. I agree, however, that the number of talkbubbles some users have is ridiculous, but it's their own dang fault. If they want to handle that many, they may choose to do so, as long as incorrect coding doesn't mess up their template.

I do agree with you, however, on the matter of user images. Uploading user images is a direct violation to the Manual of Style, as user images count as fanart, and I agree that all images should be uploaded from photobucket. I'll admit that I've uploaded some user images, but that was before I knew of the rule, and they have been put up for deletion. 

Talkbubble images are, however, a different case. Most talkbubbles are used publicly by the user, and it is difficult to put talkbubbe images in templates from photobucket. So, I say, no fanart, yes talkbubble images.}}

Besides, the users who have the most talk bubbles know what they're doing (besides ZTG, I made all of those for him), and if they mess up, they know how to change it.

I'm not trying to start a big argument, I'm just thinking about what the other users will react to a rule like that. Who knows. I'll go get KKD and Saxisai, and see what they think.}}

It doesn't pose a problem to the rest of the wiki, so why the complaint? unless the user has really screwed up his template and  cannot fix it him/herself, than I don't see a problem with having that many talk bubbles. However, I did just make a lab, so i'm ok if we set rules on this. But there would be one issue. all of the talk bubbles that I would take off would leave messed up coding wherever I used them. The damage is done, too late to reverse. and I do use all of my talk bubbles on a regular basis.}}

The coding is very easy to memorize when you get used to it, so unless you're a user who doesn't know what he or she is doing it isn't difficult. Just so long as you don't screw up other talkpages. But really if everything is fine I don't see a reason to get rid of some talkbubbles. Just like KKD said, if he got rid of all of his talkbubbles except a few there would be a lot of empty spaces. I just got rid of a few and there were a lot. KKD and Saxisai know what they're doing. ZTG.... Not so much. But maybe until he understands we can keep him away from his talkbubbles.

There really is no need for people to uplad 35 images from a crappy anime or something like that. It floods the RC, and I hate that. Also, if this is not kept in check, the wiki will be over-run with these images. On the issue of multiple talk bubbles, I really see no point of it. Why do you people need more than one? What purpose can having multiple talk bubbles possibly serve?}}
{{Randomnessity|isa=Well many of us like to have emotions to come with our talkbubble. I could easily do without(I mainly use this Isa bubble)but if you can have more than one, why not? If you screw it up as I said before just simply undo the edit you made. It's fairly simple and anyone who knows what they are doing will make them correctly. Just as I said before. As for the talk bubbles, I have no issues with them if a user wants multiples; as long as they keep them to one page and remain responsible for the coding and maintenance, I'm not going to concern myself with them.  The only issue I have is if someone is uploading massive amounts of non-wiki material to use as their avatar; one or two is fine; ten is not.  It looks like those folks all use existing avatars, however, so as long as they can keep up with them and don't cause broken links or other page issues, I don't have a problem.

ETA: Oh, and the image/talk bubble/user page policies are all on or linked to the [[Help:New user guide|New Member Guide]] now.}}

I'm sure the multiple talkbubbles (more than seven) will later turn into a problem; eventually one user with thirty talkbubbles will delete some.. But I digress, its safe to conclude (for now) that multiple talkbubbles are okay as long as they don't break any of the rules Kate has said and that users are allowed a couple of user images. Is there anything I missed in the conclusion?

Edit 02:10, January 27, 2010 (UTC): I went through the [[Category:User images]] template; could an admin go back over to see if I missed anything. Also, some of the images have two category titles (User Images and Articles for Deletion), mainly because my computer is being a pain. -_-}}

I've go through and added the deletion template to the videos that weren't being used/weren't relevant. But could an admin/someone go through and see if I missed any? Also, the articles for deletion category is filling up rapidly.

But I digress, do we have a video policy anywhere? Most of the videos we had/have are either on articles or on userpages.. The articles I can understand, but for userpages..can't they just use the coding?}}

As for video policy, I placed in the new MOS that uploading is highly discouraged. A simple embed from YouTube would suffice.}}
