:Is a French translation of the Japanese name even necessary? We're the English Wiki, meaning our primary focus should be on English. While I don't find the additional information misleading/distracting or "cool," I don't think it really serves us a purpose...especially if we cannot apply this to the other knife articles. :::The point isn't to get the name to English, though, it's to explain to the reader what the name means. Whether or not English and French share the spelling of those words, the intent is plainly the French word, and we should be informing the reader of that.
