In the context of the games, worlds are analogous to "levels" or "stages" that the protagonist must complete. They will explore the worlds and protect them from the Heartless, Nobodies, and other threats, often culminating in a boss battle against that world's villain or a denizen of darkness. Each world that appears in the ''Kingdom Hearts'' series is inspired by the films and cartoons they are based on. Oftentimes, the plot of the game in that world will be based on its original source as well.
