Well, I'd like to take that theory a little further: it's been stated that they're the opposite of Human life, and that they grow from negative emotions; well, what if someone killed people with vast negative emotions, and their Souls left the bodies, becoming Unversed? These beings would then be dead (the opposite of life) and be born of negative emotions.
