Every time a Raid Boss (レイドボス出現, Reido bosu?) appears this image appears in a splash screen and much smaller version in the HUD.
Visualization of an incoming Raid Boss attack.

Raid Bosses (レイドボス出現 Reido bosu?) are powerful Heartlesss who appear in Kingdom Hearts χ[chi]. They attack the hub in Daybreak Town in certain intervals and have to be defeated by the Player's and the opponent team to defend the town.

During the time a Raid Boss attacks Daybreak Town the sky in the hub is clouded by darkness.

Gameplay

The Raid Boss is changed every two or three weeks, each one is accompanied by a more rare variant, often called Subspecies (亜種 Ashu?), that appears with a certain chance when the normal Raid Boss is defeated fast enough and gives more rewards generally. During an event the Subspecies is often replaced with yet another variant that fits the event's theme.

The Raid Bosses are the main source of Lux and therefore beating them is essential for winning the daily Team Battle (チームバトル Chīmu batoru?) and the weekly Union Ranking (ユニオンランキング Yunion rankingu?). To attack a Raid Boss the player has to spend BP, Battle points, while the first attack is always for free.

The damage done to the Raid Boss is dependent on how many BP were spent, how many of your team mates already attacked since this number increases the Chain Bonus (チェインボーナス Chein bōnasu?) and which Keyblade is used. Every Raid Boss has a weakness to a certain Keyblade and if this one is used during the attack the Keyblade Bonus (キーブレードボーナス Kīburēdo bōnasu?) is added to the damage value, if the EX Card Bonus (EXカードボーナス EX kādo bōnasu?) is triggered it is multiplied by 10.
