Yup, Nomura is trying to **** up the series. Apparently the story is that Nomura decided to try out Batman Forever on the SNES, and liking its gameplay and control scheme, decided to import some of its gameplay elements into the North American version of BBS. The ice cream is just the icing of the cake...from what I also hear they're gonna change the controls so that up jumps, L1 attacks, x accesses your inventory, start interacts and square uses the menu.
