Refusing to simply give up, the classmen meet outside to discuss their next move. During their discussion, Baldr show up, claiming that he has been away on a mission to study the darkness as instructed by Odin. Baldr eventually reveals that he followed his sister, one of the upperclassmen, on her quest throughout the worlds, afraid that she would not return. However, upon catching up with her in [[Enchanted Dominion]], he claims to have witnessed her death at the hands of a demonic dragon, [[Maleficent]], alongside three other upperclassmen. Revealing that he stumbled upon a world that contains an underworld of lost spirits, Baldr directs the group to search this world, [[Olympus Coliseum]], in an attempt to make contact with the spirits of the slain wielders.

Traveling to this world, the group encounters Lord of the Dead, [[Hades]], and, upon successfully winning a tournament, are transported to the underworld. Once there, Xehanort, Eraqus, and Bragi encounter and fight [[Cerberus]], only to be saved by Baldr. Baldr and Bragi encourage Xehanort and Eraqus to go on without them, which they eventually agree to. Upon escaping, Xehanort begins to openly suspect that something simply isn't adding up, but does not let Eraqus know his suspicions on Baldr just yet. Xehanort and Eraqus encounter the souls of the three slain upperclassmen, who reveal that a dark fairy who cursed that world's princess seems to be responsible for their deaths. However, the classmen also believe that something much more sinister was responsible, pulling the strings from behind the scenes. Imploring for Xehanort and Eraqus to find the truth, the three classmen finally depart.

When Xehanort, Eraqus, Urd and Hermod run into Hades again, he attempts to make them permanent residents of the underworld, until a dark corridor suddenly opens and sucks the wielders in. Within the corridor, Urd and Hermod are suddenly and viscously slain by a figure cloaked in darkness. Xehanort and Eraqus almost fall victim to the same figure until Odin appears and rescues the pair, bringing them back to Scala.

Upon Xehanort and Eraqus going outside to observe the chaos and carnage enveloping Scala, Vidar appears and reveals that he has given up on his quest to summon Kingdom Hearts and knew Baldr had been possessed by darkness, refusing to slay the brother of one of his best friends and instead attempted to purge all darkness via Kingdom Hearts, before giving up out of remorse and fear. Eraqus is infuriated that Vidar knew all this time and blamed him for everything, but was eventually brought back to his senses by Xehanort.

Baldr then appears, completely possessed by darkness, which reveals that it, not Maleficent, slayed Baldr's sister in front of him and the three other upperclassmen and slowly corrupted Baldr while he was in the infirmary until it had complete control over him as a vessel, using him to murder the other wielders and convert them into darkness as well. Baldr departs for the tower, leaving behind several heartless to keep the wielder occupied. Upon defeating the heartless, Vidar reveals that Vor went to the tower to report back to Odin, shocking Xehanort and Eraqus, and leaves to save her.

By the time Xehanort and Eraqus arrive at the tower, they are too late and witness Baldr unleash a heartless to murder Vidar, his two fellow remaining upperclassmen, and Vor. Tearfully saying goodbye to Vor, Xehanort and Eraqus confront Baldr at the top of the tower who reveals his true plans. The darkness controlling Baldr was manipulating Vidar to summon Kingdom Hearts, knowing he would never slay the brother of a friend and would resort to purging the darkness instead. It then murdered Vidar's fellow upperclassmen to further incentivize him to locate the seven lights, while the darkness worked to gather 13 darknesses by slaying the other wielders. However, Vidar got cold feet in summoning Kingdom Hearts, leaving the darkness no choice but to reveal itself and finish the job itself. Revealing that it wants Kingdom Hearts because once its power is unleashed and all worlds are purged and destroyed, the world will be reborn in darkness and allow it to restructure the world towards its designs.
