The master told him, this opens up a whole lot of controversy. Luxu has to have an idea of what would transpire in the book based off what the master told him to do, he is much smarter than we originally thought thinking heavily i do not believe Luxu intended to be the cause of the world ending he says " May your heart be your guiding key" making it sound like hes doing the right thing at least in his head.
