The dark corridor eventually dropped Xehanort at [[Scala ad Caelum]], where he was taken in by Keyblade Master [[Odin]], who saw great potential in Xehanort, becoming his seventh apprentice, alongside [[Eraqus]], [[Bragi]], [[Vor]], [[Urd]], [[Hermod]], and [[Baldr]], all of whom were born in Scala and raised to be Keyblade Wielders like their ancestors before them, leaving Xehanort the sole wielder from an outside world. During the course of his training, Xehanort eventually came to see his fellow pupil Eraqus as a brother. The two often spent their time playing [[Alba & Ater]] between training. The Master taught Xehanort and his fellow classmates the ways of the Keyblade, and that their role as Keyblade wielders was to protect the worlds of [[light]] from [[darkness]]. However, this answer was unsatisfactory to Xehanort, and he often visited other worlds without permission to learn more. Initially, Xehanort wore [[Keyblade Armor]] during his travels, to protect himself from the darkness between worlds.

One day Master Odin informed everyone that the upperclassmen of Keyblade wielders had gone missing, including the sister of a fellow classmate, Baldr, and that his apprentices were to split into two groups to search the worlds. Xehanort traveled with Eraqus and another apprentice, heading to [[Agrabah]] first. Xehanort quickly realized that the world was still being reborn from the destruction of the [[Keyblade War]], as no humans were in the world. Their search continued to [[Wonderland]], where they avoided the insanity of the [[Queen of Hearts]], but left Xehanort pondering if slaying those controlled by darkness is also necessary to protect the world.

Redoubling their search for the missing upperclassman, this time starting in the [[Dwarf Woodlands]], Xehanort, Eraqus, and Vor attempt to ask the Queen and the Magic Mirror where they can find the Keyblade wielders. Rather then help, the Queen forces the three into fighting the mirror, while she escapes. After defeating the Magic Mirror within its realm, the trio finally find one of the wielders, Vidar, who claims he cannot return to Scala yet, as he is embarking on a mission of own, and convinces Vor to join him and the rest of the upperclassmen. Vor, afraid that she will not become a true Keyblade Master if she does not make new relations and broadens her horizons, hopes that her assistance in the upperclassmen's plans will facilitate her ascension to Keyblade Master.
