Another question

I just realised that some of the wikis I'm on have already started customising (notably, FFWiki and The Sims Wiki). Any idea how to do it ? And if there's a way, shall we open up a space for suggestions ?

I noticed that too and I have to say... please please don't do it D8!! Or at least make it very light customization! The talk bubbles added to the customization turn loading time into HELL. I can't even have two windows open if the sims wiki is active *computer fail*

Maybe it's just with my computer, but it really slows down everything... ;___;

I'm thinking about light too. Because the FFWiki customisation took only a short while whilst the Sims one took ages. I'm only thinking about the top bar (make it blue and yellow !) and I might do the same for the francophone wiki.

I have to say that the blue layout and the wiki image is getting kind of, eh... I don't know :P We should try something new :D

My suggestion, keep the blue, I'm not sure about the logo, but I have a few ideas for BGs.

Simple (Kingdom Hearts symbol - either crown or Keyblade - and quote on haunting black.
Thematic - Kingdom Hearts' three main characters (Sora, Riku and Kairi, or the cast of the occasion - in this case, Roxas, Axel and Xion) shopped on dark blue, towards the top right.

But in all cases, the background has to be plain/minimalistic, or else there'll be clutter.

I'm developing the simple backgrounds right now but since it's already 12:30, I'd probably make them available tomorrow morning before my Business Studies paper.

I actually brought up the thought of using a Days theme since the game is going to be released in September, and also add a timer to the front page. Axel, Xion, and Roxas would be great to have up there. Wouldn't you want to go with an autumn red theme though?

I also think that I should make mention of the ad placement. If you're not logged in, the ads go right at the top of the pages, and it usually ruins a lot of the infoboxes, pushing them down the pages. Could something possibly be done about this?

A Days redesigning... I like your idea, GS. A timer would be great! We could have a place with Featured Articles from Days, unless if we don't have enough information to have suitable content. The colors could be red, and I guess orange too maybe. And the logo in the top left corner could be changed from the faces of Sora, Kairi, and Riku to Roxas, Xion, and Axel, and with a red tint instead of a blue one.

Also, I think we need to add something to the front page; something that will catch interest, like how the FFWiki has their Random Quote of The Moment. What do you guys think?

Okay, here's what : Switch to red, Roxas, Axel and Xion. Superimpose Roxas, Axel and Xion on the top right corner (for the BG), and make it simple autumn red. Once someone has done the superimposing, I'll work on the quote.

It sounds pretty cool; I agree we could use a wee makeover. Not sure if we have enough worthwhile Days articles to make a featured article worth while, but I do like the quotes, and GS knows I think the timer is a nice touch. As Yer Mom said, just watch it's not too load heavy, for our limited access users. Maybe a mock-up somewhere so we can tweak it before the final version goes up?

What am I saying? You sneaky overachievers probably have a mock-up already. ^_^

ETA: AH-HAH! I knew it. Man, I wish my old students had been half as prepared as you guys...

I think you'd better deal with Andrewrox. It's true that Amy was responsible for all the trouble on the wiki, but Andrew hasn't stopped his mudslinging. Kryten gave me this link and I think you should take a look at it too : cliquez ! He needs to be dealt with, seriously. I'd put a warning if I could, but I'm not ready to.

I understand, and I am genuinely sorry. promise. That guy that contacted me, I did not do that, he just ceme on to me. I went to the Sims wiki to check info on thesims3, so i checked recent changes and i found out that she had ditched this wiki and that she did not like xiggie, AND that i was a wiki troll! I just came to visit.. So I was really aggrivated. I thought I should tell someone. But, now i understand that the issue is completely over, people have moved on ect. So I wont even mention the name ever again. I really should get back to editing, not much of that has been happening lately!!! Thanks for the notification anyways.

Gummi Category

Hi, I have lately been working on Gummi Pages and compiling them into a new Category known as Category:Gummi Ships. I have some questions though:

Should I put the Gummi Enemies into this category?
Do I or someone else need to get rid of the Category:Gummi Blocks?
Should I change my new category to just Category:Gummi?

And finally

Should I change the Gummi Block template to include everything Gummi? (Except I won't put on all of the enemies.)

I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes, but I thought that the Gummi articles could be more connected to each other. Thanks.

I don't think we want too many categories for each article. I think keeping the enemies in their own category is better, but I agree that the Gummi Blocks category could be switched to just "Gummi". I also agree the Gummi Block template could use some reworking too, so I say go for it. I certainly appreciate the idea; with all the stuff going on over the last few weeks, (real life and here), it seems like I haven't been able to do much "normal" editing.

Well, that stinks about not getting to be on here much. You probably are doing something important though. Well the template is done and I also made a new Gummi Category. I got rid of all links to Categories Gummi Ships and Gummi Blocks. Can you delete those pages since we don't need them anymore? I am also thinking of making a page that has a list of all the Gummi Enemies and then putting that onto the Template.

Hey Bebop, I was wondering, is there a way to change a mugshot's size in the TalkTextTest2 template? Because I'm being asked to add 358/2 Days mugshots to templates, but they use the TalkTextTest2 template, which is preventing me from changing the size.

nope, but I have an idea. instead of having it like this in the coding:

we should have it like this:

Someone erased all of the page Organization XIII Weapons and put up one of those "This article is going to be deleted" signs, but when I went to check, I saw that it wasn't even nominated for deletion, so I'm guessing it might be an act of vandalism.

Deletion Note

Hello, kupo! I have noticed that there was a deletion spree for as long as I have been absent, kupo, and I would like to emphasize a very common practice, kupo: before deleting any article or file, check first if the article or image is linked or used in any pages by using the [[Special:Whatlinkshere/(Name of page)]], or the "What links here" link of said page or file on the toolbox of the Monobook skin, kupo. Then, remove the soon-to-be-deleted files from pages or links from a soon-to-be-deleted page from other articles. This is especially important with templates, kupo. I hope you and other active administrators and moderators and editors keep this in mind,

Yup, that's usually the first thing I check before I delete the item, especially with images. If it's more "controversial", I do a quick check over the history to see what's going on. A few have probably slipped through, but overall I've never noticed any issues with articles or images missing. Most any image we've been deleting has been a duplicate, a poor version of something else, or is irrelevant to the wiki.

Ooookay, I checked the deletion log and I saw that you deleted a user talk page, kupo.

That, kupo, is a Wikia no no. User talk pages must be retained and removal of discussions must be followed with an archiving, kupo. This is common practice, kupo, not just on Wikia but a common wikiquette throughout any active Wiki. Despite it being a user talk page, it is not wholly dictated by the user, kupo. The only things that may be removed are personal, libelous information and other elements that have to be removed for legal reasons, kupo.

That said, unless there are reasonable objections related to the above, I will be restoring the talk page, kupo. As Hecko pointed out, for reference/archive purposes, we don't delete user talk pages,

If it is the talk page I am thinking of, the reason it was deleted was because it involved a user who created a serious issue here last weekend that ended up involving several editors. It seemed the only way to resolve said issue was to put the whole thing out of sight, so to speak. Leaving it up caused new people who viewed it to start the issue all over again.

It's odd that you mention the archiving, as if you look over a number of other user talk pages, I or another wiki member have always pointed out to new users that talk pages should be archived, rather than deleted. If you honestly feel it needs to be restored, that is fine, but make sure it is protected, and a big note placed at the top.

As experience tells me, Wikia does not condone flaming, editwar, personal attacks and any personal issues being discussed that could jeopardize community relations, especially in light of the user issue, kupo.

Done. I deleted most of them except the favicon image. It's a site image. If you click the blue link under the image on it's page, you'll see why. but Andrew, there's really no need to delete all of those sprites you've put up there, they are all character images from KH CoM ! (except some are just sprited characters (e.g. Xemnas) but they are in the 'User Images' Category, so no harm done.)

Also, some of the images are room cards from KH CoM. and I say that there should be a page for them ! because they are a part of CoM !

Deleted the duplicate, bad quality ones, and old user page images from inactive users. But yeah, we do need to check on some of those images and see if there is any use for them, or if the people who uploaded them are going to use them. KH fan art is okay, provided it only links to a user page and doesn't violate Wikia's TOS; however, if it's being used in a regular article, it needs to be removed from there.

Hello BebopKate! Unfortunately, I'm not here to bring you cookies or talk about J-Pop. I'm unfortunately here for a... template issue! [insert ominous music of your choice here]

Anyway, I was going fill in any missing stats for weapons from Kingdom Hearts, but I noticed that the template we use is missing an area for a stat that is provided in the official guide. The stat is ATK (Attack). It's different than Strength because Strength can be altered with accessories and such, but the Attack stat is how powerful the Keyblade/Staff/Shield is alone. Is there anyway that this stats could be placed alongside the other two in the template?

Strength is the name used within the game for the basic power of the weapon. The guide is actually woefully written - the game uses the "+" bit to refer to the change in Sora's strength when switching between weapons, but the guide interprets this as a separate stat entirely. Because you can never have "0" strength, the change is never the same as the strength. You can tell this because "Strength" and "Attack" in the guide are always different by 3. "Attack" is completely redundant to the Strength stat, and not needed.

Funny you should bring this up...I was having the same issue a few weeks ago when I was tinkering with some of Goofy's shields and just sort of let it be for now. I hadn't thought of it that way.

Basically, DoorToNothing, Kryten is saying if you add three to the Strength of a Keyblade, you will have Sora's Attack Stat for that particular weapon. I would assume there are similar formulas for Goofy and Donald's weapons.

That is correct! Donald and Goofy have a difference of 1 between their ATK and STR. Thanks for clearing that up!

Yea! I'm actually going to be leaving for 5 days, this Monday to Friday. I'll be at a church camp in Sacramento, New Mexico (yes, there IS a different one thant he one in California!) with my Youth group. Then, the day after I return, I depart for another 5 days away to go to New York City! Then, I'll be back for a week, and then leave for another 2 1/2 weeks. Then I'll be back for the rest of the summer. Quite busy travel plans, I'd say.

By the way, I put your Daisy sprite back to normal size. An edit to the TTT2 template brought it down to 50px, but I fixed it, thanks to some new coding from Xiggie.

Bebop/DTN: it is a sad game. I beat it, it was average difficulty. The bit when Xion dies is unlucky and sad, but Nomura said that Xion is one of his favourite characters. I doubt there will be a final mix, because there is not enough space for the cartridge. Thw game would have been even better if the space was larger.

DTN brought it to my attention that there are many users going to be inactive soon, mainly admins and mods.

I think that this is the complete list:

and all of the admins, except for you Azul are currently inactive (I know that XionZo is not on the inactive list, but he hasn't made an edit since May)

I've noticed that alot of the categories here use shortened game names. For example: Category:Birth by Sleep characters. Should we use full game name for categories, or stick with the shortened ones? Also, capitalization. It seems inconsistent here. Should each first letter be capitalized, or just the game names or... All capitalized looks better.

Hmm...on one hand, it would be technically correct. On the other hand, it strikes me as a bit redundant, considering this is the Kingdom Hearts wiki. On yet another hand, we have visitors coming from outside the wiki, so we probably should put the Kingdom Hearts bit in just in case.

Now, where did I get three hands from...

As for names, on other wikis I've been on, the first word, proper nouns, and titles are capitalized; all other words are left in small letters, like your example up there. I think it's technically more proper.

Hey, right now there are two categories for Chain of Memories Enemies. There is Category: Chain of Memories Enemies and Category: Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories Enemies. I was going to try and put all the pages into the second category. Which one would you say we should use?

Also, all the Heartless pages will not let me change their categories. Do you know what the reason for this is? It might just be my computer.

I can't. For instance, the Air Soldier page shows that it already has three categories. But when I try to edit them, they don't show up not even in code format.

I just finished the CoM enemies. Can you delete the categories we don't need now and then later we can figure out how to remove them from the page? Just so there is no confusion to which category we are gonna go with.

Side note: Should we have categories for Final Mix enemies? Because right now some of them are grouped with their original game but Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix has it's own enemy category.

Cap-sensitive has driven me crazy more times than not, and yeah categories are one of those places I've been caught.

Really though, correct formatting says if it's a proper noun or the first word, it's capitalized. If it's not, it's not. Same as an ordinary sentence. Just without, you know, the complete part. ^_^

The categories tied into the template must be edited from within the template.

When we had the forum discussion on the new template setup, I asked many times if just "Chain of Memories enemies" was acceptable to everyone, and recieved an affirmative answer. Is there a reason this has to be changed, and could we possibly have a wider discussion about it? (since so many picked "Chain of Memories enemies" the first time around).

If the decision is to use the longer name for the category, it needs to be changed over from within the Heartless template, and should not be added as a separate category.

Apologies, I probably wasn't active during the time of the discussion. As for categories, the problem is that our categories follow a different style. When I proposed the overhaul for the image categories, I used full names and all words capitalised (with no one objecting), but many of the other categories have shortened game names or use a mix of capitalised and non-capitalised words. Other categories use the full names and capitalised words. The problem is not whether one is more proper, but that people continue to use different styles.

So partly for consistency, and partly for easy use, I suggest we pick one style and stick with it. If we do that, we avoid dup categories and can always remember what to type when categorising an image or page, plus it's less likely that someone will make a mistake when creating a category page. It also means I won't go insane from categorising 1000+ images and constantly having to check what the category is called ^^;. For me, capitalising all the words is easier to remember. We can create redirects, but no doubt ILHI or I will obsessively go around fixing them and VFD'ing the redirects eventually.

Well, it's grammatically correct to only capitalize proper nouns and the first word of a phrase.

As for the naming, especially since we have Kingdom Hearts enemies, I personally think it makes it somewhat unclear if you have Kingdom Hearts in all the enemy category titles. I would suggest using

It occurred to me that we should probably be using full game names in our categories, seeing as how we have off-wiki visitors who may come in that way looking for information. It does look redundant when you stack them all next to each other, I admit, but we're not the only ones who use the wiki. I really wish I thought of that earlier, before you'd done all that work. If you want to reopen it for discussion, that's fine by me.

I still stand by using capital letters only for proper nouns and the first letter. It's really not that hard once you get used to it. This would probably be something to add to the manual of style.

I'm not sure I understand why off-wiki readers would be more confused by the lack of "Kingdom Hearts" before each one - the names would be parsed like titles, so it would be clear that it was some kind of KH work, and clicking on the categories would spell out the entire name. Honestly, it would seem to me to be more easy to confuse "Kingdom Hearts enemies" with being some kind of generic category if they all have it.

Monaco is probably the skin you are using, Monobook, is what I've been using ever since I started editing a wiki. You can change it by going to My Preferences, the go to Skin and check Monobook, save changes and voilà, you have Monobook.

Hey there! I just joined this wiki yesterday. I was talking with Orpheus of the Lyre, and we think May should be Wayne Allwine Rememberance Month on this wiki. During May for the next few years or so, we would feature the King Mickey, Kingdom Key D, or Mickey (Timeless River) page. Just a thought. I don't know if this has come up. You seem to be the go-to for things, so I thought i'd ask.

I don't know about go-to per se, but I think they sound like pretty cool ideas. If you want, I'd post them to the forums to get more input from everyone else. I think the Days remodel is still being worked on...apparently some stuff is being waited upon. Since we have until September before the official release, I think that project is just taking its sweet time.

Yaanchosaan categorized the image after it was added last night during my conversation with The Luna Diviner. He added the photo. Yaanchosaan only placed it in a category. That counted as a new photo, apparently.

Fastest way to get images deleted: 1) Go here. 2) Start a new heading and post a link to it there. 3)An admin will be around to help shortly. ^_^

This works particularly well if there are several questionable images, as it gets handled faster with four admins to spot and tackle it into oblivion, versus just lil' ol' me here.

Hang in there...there's just not a whole lot of big stuff to do right now. When 358/2 Days drops, I think we'll all have plenty of work. ^_^ In the meantime, there's always little things that need work, like proofreading and categories. It doesn't seem like much, but fixing those things are actually a big help to the wiki.

I replied to the forums, last night.... I have an embed code for a 358/2 Days countdown (if that's what you use). I also will allow the use of my website for 358/2 Days info. I have full pages with HQ photos and/or videos of characters/Heartless. Let me know what you think. Here is the embed code for the countdown. Depending on the error, there's probably not a thing I can do about it; that kind of thing usually falls upon Wikia itself. If it keeps happening, you might want to let them know so they can see what to do about fixing it.
