Welcome to the Manual of Style page. This page will be used as a reference for editors on how to format the articles in the Kingdom Hearts Wiki in a more standard, organized manner. You are welcome to discuss any descrepancies or loopholes in the [[Kingdom Hearts Wiki talk:Manual of Style|talk page]].
The '''Manual of Style''' (abbreviated as '''MoS''' or '''MOS''') is the style guide for all articles on the Kingdom Hearts Wiki. This page covers general formatting and grammar rules to be used on the wiki. Additional policies and pages, which are cross-referenced here, provide specific guidance on specific topics such as image and media use. The goal and purpose of the Manual of Style is to make using the Kingdom Hearts Wiki easier and more intuitive. It promotes clarity and cohesion and helps editors write articles with a consistent and precise language, layout, and format.

The ''Kingdom Hearts Wiki'' uses American English as the official standard and language for writing articles, as it is the form of English used in the games. Therefore, all grammar and punctuation in articles should follow American English conventions. There is one exception: this wiki will use the {{w|British English|U.K.}}'s rules for punctuation, otherwise known as ''logical punctuation'', in which all punctuation marks are placed inside the quotation marks if they are part of the quoted material and outside if they are not.

Should exceptions occur, these should be discussed in the article's talk page. Changes to the Manual of Style should be discussed on the manual's [[KHWiki talk:Manual of Style|talk page]].

==General==
==General==
===Titles===
*Use standard capitalization rules for article titles. Capitalize any and all proper nouns and any words officially capitalized in the games or other official canon.
*New articles should be named according to the subject's official name.
*New articles should be named according to the subject's official name.
::'''E.g.:''' an article on "Sora's Weapon" should be named "Keyblade".
::'''Example:''' An article on "Sora's weapon" should be named "Keyblade".
*If the official name of a subject has been changed in later episodes of ''Kingdom Hearts'', please use the first name. However, redirects can be made using the later names.
*Use the most recently localized name of a subject as the title, and add any additional or earlier names as redirects to the original name.
::'''E.g.:''' the Watcher is still known as the [[Surveillance Robot]], and the name "Watcher" should redirect to the page on the "Surveillance Robot".
::'''Example:''' [[Hungry]] is the most recent localized name in ''Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep'', and was originally named [[Mystery Goo]] in Kingdom Hearts and [[Serenity]] in ''Kingdom Hearts II''. The latter two titles are redirects to Hungry.
*The first line in the intro should be about the subject of the article, and the subject has to be written in '''bold'''. This is only for the first sentence about the subject. Please note that the first line should be written with the definite article and the topic is regarded as a singular entity, except for certain cases.
*Articles (a, an, the) should be avoided in article titles except if they are used in an official title/name.
**'''E.g.:''' The '''Keyblade''' is Sora's main weapon. Sora received the Keyblade in Destiny Islands. Keyblades can destroy the Heartless.
::'''Example:''' "Way to the Dawn", not "The Way to the Dawn" or "Way to Dawn”, but "The 13th Struggle”, not "13th Struggle”.
**For introductory sentences, '''circular definitions are not allowed''', because they do not explain anything to the reader. Please avoid making opening sentences along the lines of "Scar's Ghost is the Ghost of Scar".
*'''Do not''' use abbreviations.
*The definite article (the) and indefinite articles (a/an) should be avoided in article titles except if they are used in an official title/name.
::'''Example:''' ''Kingdom Hearts II'', not ''KHII'' or ''KH2''.
::'''E.g.:''' "The Way to the Dawn" should be named "Way to the Dawn".

*Avoid using the second person pronoun (you) in articles except for strategies and quotes.
===Content===
*Avoid using plural pronouns for singular nouns.
*The first sentence in the introduction should briefly define the subject of the article, and the subject has to be written in '''bold'''. Use the definite article and refer to the subject as a singular entity, except as appropriate for certain cases.
::'''E.g.:''' "The player" '''cannot''' be referred to as "they". Use the general "he".
**'''Example:''' The '''Keyblade''' is Sora's main weapon. Sora received the Keyblade in Destiny Islands. Keyblades can destroy the Heartless.
*Articles created should be limited to the ''Kingdom Hearts'' sphere. Real world references such as voice actors and game developers should be linked to their respective pages in Wikipedia.
*Avoid using the second person pronoun (you) in articles except when describing strategies in a Game-space article or in the Walkthrough-space.
::'''E.g.:''' Tetsuya Nomura should be linked to his article in Wikipedia using the line <nowiki>[[wikipedia:Tetsuya Nomura]] </nowiki>
*It is proper grammar that a possessive term should drop the final "s" if it is plural. The "S" should not be dropped solely because the word already ends with S.
*The language of the wiki is American English, considering the fact that the actual gameplay is in American English. In the American English style, it is proper grammar that a possessive term should only lack an "s" after it if it is plural. It also means that you should use a comma before the final term when making a list of three or more subjects.
::'''Example:''' Use Xemnas's, never Xemnas', and Ventus's, never Ventus', but Nobodies', never Nobodies's.
::'''E.g.:''' Use Xemnas's, never Xemnas'. Use Ventus's, never Ventus'.
*All game titles should be ''italicized'', except in the article title.
::'''E.g.:''' Ling, Chien Po, and Yao, '''''not''''' Flora, Fauna and Merryweather.
*Linking to other articles is generally limited to the first occurrence of the word or phrase in the article, or the first best use of the term. However, an article can be linked to more than once in the same article if the additional links link to individual sections of the article, rather than the article alone.
*All game titles should be ''italicized'', except for the article title (there's no coding for that anyway).
*Component, minor, or insignificant items can be grouped by an identifying characteristic rather than each item having its own page so long as the details of each component are provided.
*'''Do not''' use abbreviations. Kingdom Hearts II should be written in full, '''never use''' KHII or KH2.
::'''Example:''' [[Serenity]] for Serenity Shard, Serenity Stone, Serenity Gem, and Serenity Crystal. [[Gummi Blocks (KHII)]] for engine gummis, wing gummis, projectile gummis, etc..
*Use Roman numerals instead of Arabic numerals for titles except when it is the official name.
*All buttons (except for the analog sticks) should be represented by {{tname|Button}}, especially in ability, gameplay, and enemy Game-space pages.
::'''E.g.:''' ''Kingdom Hearts II'', not ''Kingdom Hearts 2'', but ''Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days'', not ''Kingdom Hearts CCCLVIII/II Days''.
*Interlanguage/interwiki links are optional, but encouraged. An interwiki link should not be deleted unless one of the following occurs:
*Wikilinking is limited to the first occurrence of the word or phrase.
**Exception: An article can be linked to more than once within a single article if the additional links link to individual sections of the article, rather than the article alone.
*The first letters of all original weapons e.g. '''K'''eyblade, '''B'''uster '''S'''word, '''I'''dentity '''D'''isc, must be capitalized.
*Component, minor, or insignificant items can be grouped by an identifying characteristic rather than each item having its own page as long as the details of each component are provided.
::'''E.g.:''' [[Serenity]] of Synthesis Materials, [[Engine Gummi]] of Gummi Blocks.
*All buttons (except for the analog sticks) should be represented by {{tname|Button}}, particularly in ability, sleight and enemy pages.
*Speculation should not be added into any article whatsoever unless there is enough information to substantiate it. <!--This was Unbirth's idea over the francophone wiki-->If the article concerns a character about to be released, there shall be a section for speculation, but '''do not''' add speculation into the Trivia page.
*Categories on Kingdom Hearts Wiki should be '''in-wiki''' and '''in-game'''.
*Interlanguage/interwiki links are optional, but they are encouraged. Note that '''once an interwiki link has been placed, it should not be deleted''' unless at least one of the following circumstances are fulfilled:
**The interwiki link is a broken link, which means that it directs to an empty, unwritten page.
**The interwiki link is a broken link, which means that it directs to an empty, unwritten page.
**The current link is being replaced by another link, either after the renaming of a page, or to prevent redirection.
**The current link is being replaced by another link, either after the renaming of a page, or to prevent redirection.
*For titles in the χ series, use the full title with brackets on the game article, and omit the brackets in other cases.
::'''Example:''' Use ''[[Kingdom Hearts χ]]'', ''[[Kingdom Hearts Union χ]]'', and [[χ3]], instead of ''Kingdom Hearts χ[chi]'', ''Kingdom Hearts Union χ[Cross]'', and χ3 [ex tres]
*The following set of abbreviations should be used for all infobox tabs, parenthetical article title disambiguation, and other cases:

==Deleted/previously deleted articles==
====Trivia====
*Deleted articles should never be revived on the Wiki until and unless there is enough information to substantiate them.
Content qualifies as trivia if it is information that is not significant or vital to either the game or gameplay, does not fit in other places of the article, and is of interest to note. Examples include seemingly unintentional recurrences, real-world references, or seemingly unintentional but marked similarities between two subjects. Trivia must be true and verified; neither speculation nor opinion-based conjectures are trivia. Trivia is inserted as the final subsection in an article, before "References" and "External links".
*If an article is '''too stubby''' and should be merged with another, the {{tname|Merge}} template should be used. The remaining articles (which are '''remnants of the merger''') should be marked with the {{tname|Delete}} template.
*'''Do not''' insert redundant information into the trivia section, particularly when the information is already contained within the main article body.
*If an article was '''created''' or '''revived in bad faith''' and has '''little or nothing to do with the Kingdom Hearts universe''', use the {{tname|Delete}} template.
*No distasteful information is to be put in the trivia sections, or in any other part of the character articles.
*All discussions about articles for deletion should take place in [[Kingdom Hearts Wiki:Pages for Deletion]] and '''not''' on the talk pages of the marked articles.

==For Games==
==Game articles==
*Use only official names for the title. The title must also be complete.
*Use the complete and official name for game articles.
::'''Example:''' The article for the game "Chain of Memories" should be titled "Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories".
*All game articles should use the {{tname|Infobox CVG}} template.
*All game articles should use the {{tname|Infobox CVG}} template.
::'''E.g.:''' The game "Chain of Memories" should be named "Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories".
*Place relevant navigational templates at the bottom of the article.
*Place relevant navigational templates at the bottom of the article.
*Games must be categorized under [[:Category:Games]].
*Games must be categorized under [[:Category:Games]].

===General sections===
===Sections===
*'''Story''' - plot of the game; make it as spoilerific as possible.
*'''Development''' – Detail the events surrounding the game's development, such as trailer reveals, interviews, and announcements up to the game's final regional release.
*'''Gameplay''' - a general summary will suffice.
*'''Story''' – The detailed and complete plot of the game
*'''Characters''' - limit to a list.
*'''Gameplay''' - a summary of the game's gameplay, especially new gameplay elements.
*'''Worlds''' - limit to a list.
*'''Worlds and characters''' – A list of all the characters in the game, divided by the world they appear or reside in.
*'''Trivia''' - real world references etc.
*'''Trivia''' - Real world references etc.
*'''External links''' - priority to official websites.
*'''External links''' - Links to official websites.

==For Characters==
==Character articles==
*Each character gets an article, as long as it is under the sphere of the Kingdom Hearts series.
*Every character gets an article.
*No extensive research if it is covered by other companies, or has appeared in other films or games (e.g. Disney's Goofy shouldn't be further elaborated in Goofy's article). Priority should go towards the '''in-game appearance''' rather than their respective original games/films.
*Coverage in an article should focus on appearance in the ''Kingdom Hearts'' series. Limit detailing appearances in original works, such as Disney films and ''Final Fantasy'' games.
*Likewise, character names are referred to the same way they are in the ''Kingdom Hearts'' series; for example, surnames of characters from existing works are usually dropped (e.g. [[Cloud]] instead of Cloud Strife, [[Mulan]] instead of Fa Mulan).
*Character names are as they appear in the ''Kingdom Hearts'' series.
*Each playable character should have an Infobox designed for the game in which the character appears: {{tname|InfoCharacter}} for all Characters, including villains. Organization XIII members get a special {{tname|InfoboxOrg13}} character infobox.
::'''Example''' [[Cloud]], not Cloud Strife.
*A ''Kingdom Hearts'' original character's First Appearance is the game that is their first active role in the franchise; appearances in secret endings, visions, previews, and so on are not used.
*All characters use the now-universal character infobox {{tname|Character}}.
*Insert as much official and relevant character artwork and image as possible, added with caption for explanation, but try not to go overboard. An image every five lines does more damage than good.
*Where possible, use a quote before the article that best exemplifies the character's personality or role in the games. Due to the sometimes passionate debates resultant of changes to these, do not change the character's introductory quote without prior discussion on that article's talk page. Use an appropriate quote from the character at the beginning of the page, before the Enemy template.
*Character Quotes are encouraged to be placed in between sections, but are not necessary.
*A ''Kingdom Hearts'' original character's first appearance is the game in which they first play an active role in the franchise; appearances in secret endings, visions, trailers, and so on do not count.
*If a character is fought against, a separate article under [[:Category:Enemies]] should be created entailing strategies to defeat him/her. More info under [[#For Enemies/Bosses|Enemies section]].
*Characters that are fought also get a page in the Game-space to detail battle strategies. More information under the [[#Enemy and boss articles|enemies section]].
*Place relevant navigational templates at the bottom of the article.
*Place relevant navigational templates at the bottom of the article.
*Finally, categorize a character article based on the categories under the [[:Category:Characters]].

===General sections===
===Sections===
*'''Journal''' - according to Jiminy's Journal entry. This should be the first section. All entries should be ''italicized''.
*'''Story''' – Detail the character's involvement in each game they appear in. Divide this section by each game, even if there is only one game.
**All journal entries are '''not to be tampered with'''. If there are newer journal entries, bring it to our attention on the respective talk pages.
*'''Design''' – Explain the character's physical appearance, detailing things such as clothing. This excludes changes in appearance due to moving across worlds, such as changes to Sora's appearance in Atlantica. These are covered in a separate article in the Form-space.
*'''Story''' - further divided into subsections using the title game, even if it's just one game.
*'''Personality''' – Detail the character's personality, such as their demeanor, behavior, and reactions or habits.
*'''Personality'''
*'''Abilities''' – A summary of the character's abilities. Further details are added on separate ability pages (for playable characters) and on battle strategy pages in the Game-space (for enemy characters).
*'''Appearance''' - explaining physical appearance e.g. clothing. Worldly Forms are documented under appearance and linked here. Out of universe reference is encouraged.
*'''Origin''' – For characters with original appearances in other works, such as Disney movies, Final Fantasy games, The World Ends With You, etc. Briefly describe their appearances in these and origins in these other works, including similarities or differences from these to the ''Kingdom Hearts'' series.
*'''Abilities''' - a summary, as abilities will be treated on separate pages
*'''Origin''' - reserved for ''Final Fantasy'' and Disney characters articles.
*'''Trivia''' - encouraged but only to a certain extent, as long as it is related and makes sense.
**'''Do not''' insert redundant information into the trivia section, particularly when the information is already contained within the main article body.
**A trivia section should have, at the most, seven points. If merging bits of trivial information to the main body is possible, then by all means, do so.
**No distasteful information is to be put in the trivia sections, or in any other part of the character articles.

==For Worlds/Locations==
==World and location articles==
*Each world gets an article, as long as it is under the sphere of the ''Kingdom Hearts'' series.
*Every world gets an article.
*'''Key locations''' get their own articles, particularly when an event has taken place in a particular location. Other less important locations should '''not''' have their own articles, and should only be contained in '''bold text''' within the World pages.
*'''Key locations''' get their own articles, particularly when an event has taken place in a particular location. Other locations and settings should '''not''' have their own articles, and should be covered in their respective World pages under the section "Settings and areas".
*No extensive research if it is covered by other companies, (e.g. Disney's Atlantica shouldn't be further elaborated in Atlantica's article). Again, priority goes to the '''in-game''' appearance.
*Limit details to in-game appearances. Do not detail information on worlds as they appear in their respective original works, such as Disney movies or Final Fantasy games.
*Images are encouraged.

===General sections===
===Sections===
*'''Locations''' - listing the sub-locations in each world. As said above, key locations have their own articles.
*'''Areas and settings''' – Briefly describe all the locations and settings in the world, listing the names of each location in bold text. Each location name gets an article that redirects to the world page, with an anchor to the exact location of that place in the article.
*'''Characters''' - list '''only residents''', not visitors.
::'''Example:''' Hall of the Cornerstone should redirect to the  Disney Castle article with the anchor Hall of the Cornerstone. This is done by using {{tname|a}}.
*'''Story''' - the story events that have taken place.
*'''Story''' – Detail the story events that take place in the world or location.
*'''Shops''' - a guide of items sold here, and where they can be found.
*'''Characters''' – A gallery of all the characters that reside in the world, followed by visitors. (Playable characters should not be listed.)
*'''Synthesis Shops''' - a guide to where moogle shops can be found.
*'''Enemies''' - a gallery of all enemies that appear in that world or location, including all bosses.
*'''Enemies''' - a list of enemies that have appeared.
*'''Gallery''' - a gallery of any images applicable to the location (key locations only; for world articles, see the appropriate Gallery-space article.
*'''Treasure List''' - where the world's treasure chests can be found, and what are contained inside them.
*'''Mini-Games''' - a list of mini-games that might be found in the respective worlds, and on which location they may be activated. '''Do not''' elaborate on the objectives of these games, as they will be covered in their respective pages.
*'''Trivia'''.

==For Enemies/Bosses==
==Enemy and boss articles==
*Each enemy/boss gets an article. This applies to all Heartless, Nobodies and enemies that do not interact with the player verbally.
*Every enemy and boss gets an article, including every Heartless, Nobody, Unversed, and Dream Eater.
*Characters fought against, such as Maleficent, Ansem or Xehanort, must have separate articles, one Character page and one Enemy page.
*Characters fought against, such as Maleficent, Ansem or Xehanort, get a separate article to detail battle strategies in the Game-space.
*At least one image must be placed for identification.
*All Heartless, Nobodies, Unversed, and Dream Eaters are genderless, classified as "it" or "its" when referring to possession.
*Add a stats Infobox.
**'''<font color="blue">YES</font>''' : ''The Zip Slasher is a powerful enemy. '''It''' uses a powerful slash attack to deal great amounts of damage. Using Block to defend against '''its''' slash attack will knock it unconscious.''
*Categorize according to type: [[:Category:Heartless]], [[:Category:Nobody]], or [[:Category:Enemies]] for non-Heartless/Nobodies. Add the [[:Category:Bosses]] if it is a Boss, regardless of type.
**'''<font color="red">NO</font>''' : ''The Zip Slasher is a powerful enemy. '''He''' uses a powerful slash attack to deal great amounts of damage. Using Block to defend against '''his''' slash attack will knock him unconscious.''
*Place navigational templates as relevant, in this case being {{tname|HeartlessBossDirectory}}.
*Any character of either enemy type with an obvious gender, such as the members of Organization XIII and Xehanort's Heartless, are an exception to this rule.
**'''<font color="blue">YES</font>''' : ''Xemnas is the leader of Organization XIII. '''He''' wields dual Ethereal Blades in battle.''
**'''<font color="red">NO</font>''' : ''Xemnas is the leader of Organization XIII. '''It''' wields dual Ethereal Blades in battle.''
*Place navigational templates as relevant, such as {{tname|HeartlessBossDirectory}}.

===General sections===
===Sections===
*'''Journal Entry''' - as according to Jiminy's Journal. All entries should be ''italicized''.
*'''Story''' – Detail any relevant story events that occur.
*'''Story''' - Add if there is any relevant story info. This is the first section.
*'''Design''' - Describe the enemy's physical appearance. Include at the end, if applicable, the source or origin of the name of the subject.
*'''Card''' - add only if enemy appears as an [[enemy card]] in ''Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories''. Use [[:Template:InfoEnemyCard]].
*'''Strategy''' - Describe different tactics to defeating the enemy and list the enemy's abilities and attacks. This section isn't required for enemies which are also main characters. In such cases, describe these battles in the article's related Game-space article.
*'''Abilities''' - battle information.
*'''Appearances''' - divided under games, then listing the world where it appears. Add specific location if possible.
*'''Etymology''' - if applicable.
*'''Quotes''' - if the boss in question is a character with spoken lines.
**For the Battle Quotes section, a '''maximum of 10 quotes''' is allowed.
**Do not put in grunts or cries like "oof", "ack" or "ah".

==For Music==
==Music articles==
*Each individual music track gets an article. This applies to both tracks for the same character but with a different name and for tracks with a different name but similar melody, such as [[Kairi I]] and [[Kairi III]], and [[Dive into the Heart -Destati-]] and [[Destati]].
*Each individual music track gets an article.
*Original soundtracks [OST] also get their own article.
**This applies to any track with a unique name, even if they have a similar melody (such as "[[Dive into the Heart -Destati-]]" and "[[Destati]]", or "[[Destiny's Union]]" and "[[Chains to Bonds]]").
*Place navigational templates as relevant, in this case being {{tname|Music}}
**This does not apply to new arrangements of a track that use a number or subtitle instead of a unique name (such as "[[Kairi I]]" and "[[Kairi III]]", or "{{c|Sora|track}}" and "[[Sora -Orchestra of Toads-]]").
**All unnamed music tracks in a game share a single article. Files for unnamed tracks should be titled using the following format: "'''Unnamed track ([Cutscene name]) ## [Game]'''", such as "Unnamed track (Gambit) 01 KHIII".
*Playable tracks in ''Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory'' get a separate article in the '''Game''' namespace

The Manual of Style (abbreviated as MoS or MOS) is the style guide for all articles on the Kingdom Hearts Wiki.

The Kingdom Hearts Wiki uses American English as the official standard and language for writing articles, as it is the form of English used in the games. Therefore, all grammar and punctuation in articles should follow American English conventions. There is one exception: this wiki will use the U.K.'s rules for punctuation, otherwise known as logical punctuation, in which all punctuation marks are placed inside the quotation marks if they are part of the quoted material and outside if they are not.

Should exceptions occur, these should be discussed in the article's talk page. Changes to the Manual of Style should be discussed on the manual's talk page.

General

Titles

  • Use standard capitalization rules for article titles. Capitalize any and all proper nouns and any words officially capitalized in the games or other official canon.
  • New articles should be named according to the subject's official name.
Example: An article on "Sora's weapon" should be named "Keyblade".
  • Use the most recently localized name of a subject as the title, and add any additional or earlier names as redirects to the original name.
Example: Hungry is the most recent localized name in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, and was originally named Mystery Goo in Kingdom Hearts and Serenity in Kingdom Hearts II. The latter two titles are redirects to Hungry.
  • Articles (a, an, the) should be avoided in article titles except if they are used in an official title/name.
Example: "Way to the Dawn", not "The Way to the Dawn" or "Way to Dawn”, but "The 13th Struggle”, not "13th Struggle”.
  • Do not use abbreviations.
Example: Kingdom Hearts II, not KHII or KH2.

Content

  • The first sentence in the introduction should briefly define the subject of the article, and the subject has to be written in bold. Use the definite article and refer to the subject as a singular entity, except as appropriate for certain cases.
    • Example: The Keyblade is Sora's main weapon. Sora received the Keyblade in Destiny Islands. Keyblades can destroy the Heartless.
  • Avoid using the second person pronoun (you) in articles except when describing strategies in a Game-space article or in the Walkthrough-space.
  • It is proper grammar that a possessive term should drop the final "s" if it is plural. The "S" should not be dropped solely because the word already ends with S.
Example: Use Xemnas's, never Xemnas', and Ventus's, never Ventus', but Nobodies', never Nobodies's.
  • All game titles should be italicized, except in the article title.
  • Linking to other articles is generally limited to the first occurrence of the word or phrase in the article, or the first best use of the term. However, an article can be linked to more than once in the same article if the additional links link to individual sections of the article, rather than the article alone.
  • Component, minor, or insignificant items can be grouped by an identifying characteristic rather than each item having its own page so long as the details of each component are provided.
Example: Serenity for Serenity Shard, Serenity Stone, Serenity Gem, and Serenity Crystal. Gummi Blocks (KHII) for engine gummis, wing gummis, projectile gummis, etc..
  • All buttons (except for the analog sticks) should be represented by {{Button}}, especially in ability, gameplay, and enemy Game-space pages.
  • Interlanguage/interwiki links are optional, but encouraged. An interwiki link should not be deleted unless one of the following occurs:
    • The interwiki link is a broken link, which means that it directs to an empty, unwritten page.
    • The current link is being replaced by another link, either after the renaming of a page, or to prevent redirection.
  • For titles in the χ series, use the full title with brackets on the game article, and omit the brackets in other cases.
Example: Use Kingdom Hearts χ, Kingdom Hearts Union χ, and χ3, instead of Kingdom Hearts χ[chi], Kingdom Hearts Union χ[Cross], and χ3 [ex tres]
  • The following set of abbreviations should be used for all infobox tabs, parenthetical article title disambiguation, and other cases:
Game Abbreviation
Kingdom Hearts KH
Kingdom Hearts Final Mix KHFM
Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories KHCOM
Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories KHRECOM

Trivia

Content qualifies as trivia if it is information that is not significant or vital to either the game or gameplay, does not fit in other places of the article, and is of interest to note. Examples include seemingly unintentional recurrences, real-world references, or seemingly unintentional but marked similarities between two subjects. Trivia must be true and verified; neither speculation nor opinion-based conjectures are trivia. Trivia is inserted as the final subsection in an article, before "References" and "External links".

  • Do not insert redundant information into the trivia section, particularly when the information is already contained within the main article body.
  • No distasteful information is to be put in the trivia sections, or in any other part of the character articles.

Game articles

  • Use the complete and official name for game articles.
Example: The article for the game "Chain of Memories" should be titled "Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories".
  • All game articles should use the {{Infobox CVG}} template.
  • Place relevant navigational templates at the bottom of the article.
  • Games must be categorized under Category:Games.

Sections

  • Development – Detail the events surrounding the game's development, such as trailer reveals, interviews, and announcements up to the game's final regional release.
  • Story – The detailed and complete plot of the game
  • Gameplay - a summary of the game's gameplay, especially new gameplay elements.
  • Worlds and characters – A list of all the characters in the game, divided by the world they appear or reside in.
  • Trivia - Real world references etc.
  • External links - Links to official websites.

Character articles

  • Every character gets an article.
  • Coverage in an article should focus on appearance in the Kingdom Hearts series. Limit detailing appearances in original works, such as Disney films and Final Fantasy games.
  • Character names are as they appear in the Kingdom Hearts series.
Example Cloud, not Cloud Strife.
  • All characters use the now-universal character infobox {{Character}}.
  • Where possible, use a quote before the article that best exemplifies the character's personality or role in the games. Due to the sometimes passionate debates resultant of changes to these, do not change the character's introductory quote without prior discussion on that article's talk page. Use an appropriate quote from the character at the beginning of the page, before the Enemy template.
  • A Kingdom Hearts original character's first appearance is the game in which they first play an active role in the franchise; appearances in secret endings, visions, trailers, and so on do not count.
  • Characters that are fought also get a page in the Game-space to detail battle strategies. More information under the enemies section.
  • Place relevant navigational templates at the bottom of the article.

Sections

  • Story – Detail the character's involvement in each game they appear in. Divide this section by each game, even if there is only one game.
  • Design – Explain the character's physical appearance, detailing things such as clothing. This excludes changes in appearance due to moving across worlds, such as changes to Sora's appearance in Atlantica. These are covered in a separate article in the Form-space.
  • Personality – Detail the character's personality, such as their demeanor, behavior, and reactions or habits.
  • Abilities – A summary of the character's abilities. Further details are added on separate ability pages (for playable characters) and on battle strategy pages in the Game-space (for enemy characters).
  • Origin – For characters with original appearances in other works, such as Disney movies, Final Fantasy games, The World Ends With You, etc. Briefly describe their appearances in these and origins in these other works, including similarities or differences from these to the Kingdom Hearts series.

World and location articles

  • Every world gets an article.
  • Key locations get their own articles, particularly when an event has taken place in a particular location. Other locations and settings should not have their own articles, and should be covered in their respective World pages under the section "Settings and areas".
  • Limit details to in-game appearances. Do not detail information on worlds as they appear in their respective original works, such as Disney movies or Final Fantasy games.

Sections

  • Areas and settings – Briefly describe all the locations and settings in the world, listing the names of each location in bold text. Each location name gets an article that redirects to the world page, with an anchor to the exact location of that place in the article.
Example: Hall of the Cornerstone should redirect to the Disney Castle article with the anchor Hall of the Cornerstone. This is done by using {{a}}.
  • Story – Detail the story events that take place in the world or location.
  • Characters – A gallery of all the characters that reside in the world, followed by visitors. (Playable characters should not be listed.)
  • Enemies - a gallery of all enemies that appear in that world or location, including all bosses.
  • Gallery - a gallery of any images applicable to the location (key locations only; for world articles, see the appropriate Gallery-space article.

Enemy and boss articles

  • Every enemy and boss gets an article, including every Heartless, Nobody, Unversed, and Dream Eater.
  • Characters fought against, such as Maleficent, Ansem or Xehanort, get a separate article to detail battle strategies in the Game-space.
  • All Heartless, Nobodies, Unversed, and Dream Eaters are genderless, classified as "it" or "its" when referring to possession.
    • YES : The Zip Slasher is a powerful enemy. It uses a powerful slash attack to deal great amounts of damage. Using Block to defend against its slash attack will knock it unconscious.
    • NO : The Zip Slasher is a powerful enemy. He uses a powerful slash attack to deal great amounts of damage. Using Block to defend against his slash attack will knock him unconscious.
  • Any character of either enemy type with an obvious gender, such as the members of Organization XIII and Xehanort's Heartless, are an exception to this rule.
    • YES : Xemnas is the leader of Organization XIII. He wields dual Ethereal Blades in battle.
    • NO : Xemnas is the leader of Organization XIII. It wields dual Ethereal Blades in battle.
  • Place navigational templates as relevant, such as {{HeartlessBossDirectory}}.

Sections

  • Story – Detail any relevant story events that occur.
  • Design - Describe the enemy's physical appearance. Include at the end, if applicable, the source or origin of the name of the subject.
  • Strategy - Describe different tactics to defeating the enemy and list the enemy's abilities and attacks. This section isn't required for enemies which are also main characters. In such cases, describe these battles in the article's related Game-space article.

Item articles

  • Each item gets an article.
  • Place templates as appropriate.
  • Categorize as appropriate. Items fall under a subcategory by game under the main Category:Items.

Equipment articles

Sections

  • Design – A detailed description of the item's physical appearance.
  • Recipe – Instructions on how to synthesize the item (if applicable)

Ability articles

  • Abilities should be grouped together in articles per game.
  • All abilities for playable characters get their own pages.
Example: Sonic Blade, Strike Raid, and Glide.

Sections

  • (Lead): should list the games in which it appears and give a general description.
  • Mechanics – Describe the type of ability and how it's equipped and/or executed/activated, if relevant.
  • Learning [ability]: list of methods of obtaining, learning, or otherwise gaining access to the ability.
  • Drops (for commands): enemy drop rates
  • Recipes (for commands): synthesis recipes for the command
  • Synthesized commands (for commands): recipes that use the command

Music articles

  • Each individual music track gets an article.
    • This applies to any track with a unique name, even if they have a similar melody (such as "Dive into the Heart -Destati-" and "Destati", or "Destiny's Union" and "Chains to Bonds").
    • This does not apply to new arrangements of a track that use a number or subtitle instead of a unique name (such as "Kairi I" and "Kairi III", or "Sora" and "Sora -Orchestra of Toads-").
    • All unnamed music tracks in a game share a single article. Files for unnamed tracks should be titled using the following format: "Unnamed track ([Cutscene name]) ## [Game]", such as "Unnamed track (Gambit) 01 KHIII".
  • Playable tracks in Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory get a separate article in the Game namespace
  • Original soundtracks albums [OST] also get their own articles.
  • Place the navigational template {{Music}} at the end of the article.
  • Music track articles should include an infobox detailing the information as listed on {{InfoTrack}}

Sections (individual tracks)

  • Introductory sentence – Should use the following format: "[Track title] is a musical composition by [Composer] that appears in/introduced in [game(s)]." Depending on the track, specific games may be listed or may be replaced with "the Kingdom Hearts series."
  • Appearances – This is the first section. List any occurrences the track plays, including cutscenes, boss fights, mini-games, and menus.
  • Composition – This is the second section. The first paragraph should describe in detail the: approximate length of the piece; tempo(s), noting how many beats per minute; key signature(s); if the piece has or lacks an introduction and/or conclusion; how many measures each loop occurs; and instrumentation. A separate paragraph may be designated for each game/variation, depending on the track. The second paragraph should be a complete and in-depth music theory analysis of the piece, containing thorough descriptions of all phrases, noteworthy rhythms/themes, any forms of musical expressions (i.e. ornamentation(s), ritardandos, accelerandos, etc.), changes in dynamics, and even chord analysis.
  • Other appearances – An optional section for appearances in outside official sources, such as spin-offs, merchandise, and Square Enix official music websites.
  • Albums – Any soundtracks that specifically list the respective music track should be listed and linked to.
  • Categorization – Each track is already categorized by game. Certain sub-categories also exist: world, boss, and character. Category:Boss themes are for tracks that are exclusive battle themes that play during boss fights- such as One-Winged Angel (from FINAL FANTASY VII). Category:Character themes are for tracks that are solely character themes- such as Kairi (track) and Naminé (track).
