La Cité des Cloches (Fra: "The City of Bells") is a world that is featured in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. It is based on the Disney film, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The world previously appeared, unnamed, in the non-canon comic El Cetro y el Reino. La Cité des Cloches is set in Paris, and is one of the worlds submerged in sleep that must be awakened.

Locations

The world's playable areas include inside and outside Notre Dame cathedral itself, the streets of Paris, the Court of Miracles, the bridge leading to the River Seine and the Miller's land.

Story

Between Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep and Kingdom Hearts

Sometime after Terra-Xehanort's descent into darkness, his heartless, Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, attacked many worlds, including La Cité des Cloches, and swallowed them into the darkness. Though it was restored after Sora defeated Ansem and destroyed the End of the World, La Cité des Cloches remained in a state of deep sleep instead of returning to the Realm of Light, plagued by Nightmare Dream Eaters.

The Sceptre and the Kingdom

In The Sceptre and the Kingdom, Sora and Riku arrive at La Cité des Cloches by mistake while chasing the villain who had stolen the Disney Fairies' sceptre from Disney Castle, when Donald is unable to send them to their intended destination.

The two boys appear out of nowhere and fall on top of Judge Frollo, who accuses them of being witches. They flee from Frollo and are rescued by Esmeralda, who leads them to the Cathedral of Notre Dame where they meet Quasimodo. Finally, after asking how to find a door to their world, the gargoyle Laverne guides them towards their true destination.

While the role the world will play in the storyline is unknown, several screenshots have surfaced which depict Sora meeting Frollo and Phoebus, Riku interacting with Quasimodo and Esmeralda, and Frollo harassing Esmeralda inside Notre Dame cathedral. One screenshot depicts Quasimodo apparently having sneaked Esmeralda out of the cathedral, and a trailer shows Quasimodo offering to aid Riku against the Gargoyle Dream Eater while protecting Esmeralda.

The game's Jump Festa 2012 trailer depicts more scenes from the world, such as Frollo harassing Esmeralda and Sora rushing to stop him; Sora, Quasimodo, and Phoebus trying to get Esmeralda to flee from the Court of Miracles before Frollo turns up, and Quasimodo swinging down to save Esmeralda from her execution. Notably, Sora is shown facing the unhooded Unknown and Vanitas inside the cathedral, while Riku faces Ansem, Seeker of Darkness on the balcony.

In the February 2012 Special Trailer, more scenes are shown, such as Quasimodo unknowingly riding a Zou Elephant during the Festival of Fools, the gargoyles apparently vanquishing a Dream Eater, and Riku facing Frollo on the balcony of the cathedral. A later scene shows Riku facing Ansem and the Unknown on the balcony.
