Etymology[edit]

From Wikipedia, it seems that Phil's name refers to the Greek prince of the same name, probably taken for the easy name joke:

"In Greek mythology, Philoctetes (also Philoktêtês or Philocthetes, Φιλοκτήτης) was the son of King Poeas of Meliboea in Thessaly. He was a Greek hero, famed as an archer, and was a participant in the Trojan War."

As for his appearance and role, he seems to be based off of Chiron, a centaur whose duty it was to train the heroes. Infact, in the movie, Phil even claims that he taught some of Chiron's students. I want to putthis here first though, given that it's not technically confirmed and I know how some editors react to any amout of speculation. Should this be in the article? maggosh Strike backwards... "That's a nice expression."

You're terrified, aren't you?

Yes, but file it under "Origin".

BbS Pic[edit]

He looks exactly the same. Do we really need the Birth by Sleep picture? 24.205.43.42 04:54, February 4, 2010 (UTC)

Aqua[edit]

Shouldn't someone add that he liked Aqua or at the very least, thought she looked nice? (He calls her sweet cheaks, etc. and there are many other examples) LiLLiPaDDy ~True tears are never seen, only hidden~ 12:55, September 22, 2010 (UTC)

He's a satyr. He likes all women, exactly in that way.Glorious CHAOS! 13:14, September 22, 2010 (UTC)

Okay, I never really payed attention to him, and I've never seen the movie.

If I remember correctly he said those kind of stuff to other girls in the movie as well 17master 13:53, September 22, 2010 (UTC)

To put it bluntly, satyrs are half-goat serial rapists. Philoctetes is supposed to be a "family-friendly" version of that.Glorious CHAOS! 14:06, September 22, 2010 (UTC)

...They're rapists? I never heard about that before ._. 17master 14:12, September 22, 2010 (UTC)

Constellations[edit]

At the start of the article, it mentions that Phil wants to see his heroes' constellations in the sky. Then, at the end of the Olympus Coliseum 2nd chapter in KHII, you see Sora and co.'s constellations. Should this be mentioned in trivia (since it's related to why Phil does what he does) or is it irrelevant? [[ Soxra ]] 18:23, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

Announcement[edit]

Ichirō Nagai, the offical Japanese voice actor for Phil and Grumpy (as well Samos and Cid Pollendina) has just passed away. UxieLover1994 17:40, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

WHAT?! :O May he R.I.P. T _ T.--NinjaSheik 18:31, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

Assistant member[edit]

Does he count as one, because of the "Phil One Two" reaction command you can do with him against the Hydra? TheFifteenthMember 13:22, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

He is as much of one as Pegasus, gameplay-wise. --Neumannz, The Dark Falcon 17:18, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
Then, I'm kind of reluctant to list them as assistant members who should, in my view, fight exactly like a Party Member would; the only difference is they don't have a health bar. Characters who only trigger a Reaction Command and don't fight (e.g. Phil, Cogsworth) aren't really the same thing and I don't think they should be in the same list as the likes of Leon and Cloud. Thoughts? TheFifteenthMember 20:37, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
I agree. I think only characters who attack themselves (without having to use a Reaction Command) should count as assistant members. TheSilentHero 21:04, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
Should we still list the other characters who rely on Reaction Commands in a separate "Other allies" list? Also, what category does Minnie belong to because she uses Pearl independently, but relies on Sora to move around? TheFifteenthMember 21:08, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
If I remember correctly, you also have to protect her, and when she has too much damage, you lose. This could also disqualify someone as assistant, because instead of assisting you, they need assistance themselves. However, when Leon assists you in protecting the gate, he does count as an assistant, because he doesn't have a damage gauge himself, only the gate has one. So basically, if you will lose when the other character gets too much damage, that character is not an assistant. What do you think? TheSilentHero 21:22, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
So, it looks like you would like to separate them into three categories: assistants who engage in combat, assistants who don't, and escorted characters? (Bear in mind that every escorted character has a Reaction Command associated with them, and Minnie has both Faith (RC) and Pearl (independent attack).) Am I understanding right? --Neumannz, The Dark Falcon 22:05, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
Yes. And I think the escorted characters should get the highest priority, as it can cause a Game Over. So, Minnie would be an escorted character. The second highest priority should go to independent assisting characters, as they assist more. TheSilentHero 22:37, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
I'm not sure what your standard for "assisting more" is; you cannot defeat Beast without utilizing Cogsworth, for example. --Neumannz, The Dark Falcon 23:02, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
Well, I meant they do more, like move and attack on their own, almost like regular party members. TheSilentHero 10:37, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

So, I was looking at some KHII Ultimania scans, and the Ultimania lists Leon, Yuffie, Cloud, Tifa, Herc, Minnie, Pete, Mickey, and Axel as "Cooperation characters" (協カキャラクター), while Cogsworth, Phil, Meg, and Pegasus are "Other characters that appear in battle". [1] TheSilentHero 18:34, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

So there we have two different kinds of assists, ones that attack, and ones that don't. --Neumannz, The Dark Falcon 22:31, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

Do they have a similar list in the KHBBS Ultimania? TheFifteenthMember 22:43, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

philoctetes[edit]

The KH3 JP site recognizes Philoctetes, but have they ever provided katakana?"We're werewolves, not swearwolves." (KrytenKoro) 19:16, 23 October 2018 (UTC)
