Oogie Boogie originates from Tim Burton's 1993 stop motion Disney film, ''The Nightmare Before Christmas''. When Lock, Shock, and Barrel bring Santa Claus to Halloween Town as per Jack's order, the trio betray him and bring him to Oogie, who chains him up for torture and plans to kill him. Sally discovers this and tries to rescue Santa, but is caught by Oogie. When Jack realizes he ruined Christmas and how much Halloween needed him, he heads to Oogie's lair to free Santa and Sally, who are nearly dumped into a fiery molten pit. After Jack battles his way past Oogie's gambling devices, Oogie attempts to escape, but Jack manages to pull on one of his loose threads. This shreds out Oogie's clothing, revealing him to be a colony of bugs wrapped in sacking. His bugs fall into his batch of Snake and Spider Stew, and his 'brain bug' is stepped on by Santa. He is one of Disney's most popular villains, despite only ten minutes screen time.
