Mr. Smee is Captain Hook's first mate. He appears in Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep as an inhabitant of Neverland, and apparently the only other human member of Hook's pirate crew other than Hook himself. He is originally from Disney's Peter Pan.

Story

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

Mr. Smee and Captain Hook are first shown transporting a treasure chest full of "light" over to Skull Rock. While moving the chest, the two are attacked by an Unversed and are shortly saved by the world's new visitor. After the defeat of the Unversed, Smee leaves with Captain Hook to investigate the shooting star.

As Ventus and Peter Pan search for their lost treasure, they are attacked by the cannons on Captain Hook's ship, manned by Mr. Smee.

During Aqua's visit to Neverland, the group is bombarded by the cannons on Captain Hook's ship, where Mr. Smee is shown. After stealing the Lost Boys' treasure, Mr. Smee and Captain Hook take the chest to the Gully to examine their loot. Under Hook's orders, Smee opens the chest only to find it filled with wooden swords, fishing rods, and other objects that the Lost Boys and Peter Pan treasure. The Crocodile then swims into the Gully, scaring off Captain Hook with Smee in tow.

Kingdom Hearts

Smee appears alongside Captain Hook on the pirate ship, serving as Hook's right-hand man and his only human companion. Smee helps Captain Hook in the capture of both Wendy and Peter Pan, taking the two aboard their ship. Once Sora, Donald, and Goofy fight their way to the ship's deck, Smee is charged with making the group walk the plank after Hook returns to his quarters after seeing the Crocodile. After losing Tinker Bell to Peter Pan, Smee runs away. The group defeats successfully defeats the Heartless left behind. Once the Heartless are gone, the party tries to get Captain Hook to come out, prompting Peter Pan to mimic Smee's voice.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days

When Roxas first arrives in Neverland he finds Smee digging for treasure on the Mainland with Captain Hook. The two come across an empty box, originally thought to contain a hidden treasure from one of their recently collected treasure maps. This empty chest is influenced by Captain Hook's darkness and begins to summon Heartless, prompting the two to flee. Smee is last shown on Hook's ship, plotting a course to the next treasure location.

Design

Smee is a short, rotund man with an odd, hourglass-shaped head. He has shoulder-length, white hair (though the top of his head is bald) and thick, black eyebrows. His eyes are black and close-set, and they are often half-closed. His nose is large and pink, and the rest of his skin is slightly pink as well. In terms of clothing, Smee wears what seem to be very simple, brown sandals, a short-sleeved shirt with alternating sky blue and white horizontal stripes, and teal shorts. He also wears half-moon spectacles and a floppy, conical, red hat with a red puffball on the tip.

Personality

Smee is a weak-willed character, often seen being rushed around by his captain. Even though his captain gives him a lot of trouble, Smee is very loyal to him. He is clumsy, goofy, and unlike his captain, is very kind. Smee is also very timid, submitting to anything that poses any sort of threat.

Origin

Smee originated in J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan 1911 series novel, Peter and Wendy. In the novel, he is one of the two pirates who survived from Peter Pan's massacre.

In terms of Peter Pan, Smee acted as Captain Hook's right-hand man. Smee is often the one who rows the boat for Captain Hook and is the one that Captain Hook cries for when the Crocodile is around. Smee swipes Tinker Bell when she watches Peter Pan and Wendy disdainfully and writes down the location of Peter Pan's hideout when Hook tricks her. In the end, Smee is left in a lifeboat and goes after Captain Hook, who is sent skipping across the water after being defeated by the crocodile.

Smee appears in the sequel, Return to Never Land, where he helps Hook capture Jane, Wendy's daughter, and take her to Neverland as part of a trap for Peter Pan. At the end of the film, the Jolly Roger is sunk, and Captain Hook, Smee, and the other pirates are chased away by an octopus, who mistakes them all as codfish.
