Mickey is very friendly and loyal, always thinking positively while trying to lift the spirits of others. He is always ready to help his friends and tries to protect them at any costs, showing a determination that none could dampen. Mickey always tries to keep the promises he makes to his friends, even when he doesn't always agree with said promise, showing a great deal of loyalty to those who earned his friendship. When he sees his friends get hurt, he becomes surprisingly serious and angry, such as when Goofy appears to be mortally wounded after saving him during the [[Battle of the 1000 Heartless]]. In addition, Mickey has shown a good deal of guilt over the fates Aqua, Ventus and Terra had faced, believing he was partially responsible, especially with Aqua who was stranded in the Realm of Darkness for years. Despite this, Mickey resolved to save them.

Mickey's valiant nature often pits him against villains that try to hurt his friends and allies or conquer worlds. He is especially antagonistic towards Maleficent, with whom he has clashed multiple times, and towards [[Master Xehanort]], whose actions have caused a great deal of pain and destruction throughout the worlds, including the ruining of the lives of Terra, Aqua, and Ventus.

Originally, Mickey possessed a biased view on Light and Darkness. He believed Light was always a force of good while Darkness was always evil, never giving the chance to understand them both. However, after journeying with Riku he realized the naivety of his views, seeing that Light and Darkness are interdependent of each other, with all world being made of both. Mickey came to accept that Darkness is half of everything and that people are merely scared of the darkness, rather it actually being a force of evil.
