Template:Enemy Lumiere is a character from Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. He is a candelabra with two candles for hands, and a third for a head. He travels by jumping.

Story

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days

Lumiere and Cogsworth are assigned to patrol the castle and keep watch for intruders, forcing Roxas and Xion to avoid their sight. Lumiere and the other servants were convinced that if they found the mystery man the Beast and Belle would make up and help the Beast and all of his servants revert to human form.

Kingdom Hearts II

Under Xaldin's influence, Beast locks his servants in the Dungeon. After Sora, Donald, and Goofy release them, Lumiere and the others guide the trio through a shortcut to the West Hall so that they can speak with the Beast.

After Sora defeats the Dark Thorn, Lumiere and Cogsworth tell about the enchantment on the castle's inhabitants.

When Xaldin interrupts the Beast and Belle's ball and steals the Beast's rose, Lumiere, Cogsworth, and Mrs. Potts tell the heroes the story behind the rose, and about how the Beast must learn to love and earn love in return before the last petal falls from the rose to break the enchantment.

Lumiere is last seen observing the romantic dance between the Beast and Belle after Xaldin's defeat. Some time after Xemnas's defeat, Lumiere, along with rest of the castle's inhabitants, returned to his human form.

Appearance

Because of the curse, Lumiere takes the form of a gold, three-branched candelabrum, with the circular base acting as his foot, which he hops around on, and the central column acting as his body. The two side branches of the candelabrum act as his arms and are attached to the central column just below the base of the main candlestick; Lumiere's head. There is a short, white candle in each of these side arms, both of which are usually lit. The main candlestick is also white and lit, but is much longer and has a small amount of wax melting at the top, resembling his hair. Lumiere has brown eyebrows, oval-shaped, close-set eyes, and straight, white teeth. The base of the candlestick acts as both Lumiere's neck and his lower jaw.

Personality

Lumiere is the slightly rebellious and flaunty friend of Cogsworth, and servant to the Beast. Lumiere is the exact opposite of the strict Cogsworth, instead having a more carefree attitude. Like the other servants, Lumiere is hopeful in Belle, believing she will be the one to break the enchanted spell.

Abilities

Lumiere has no specific abilities, but he is able to light the three lamps in the Secret Passage in Beast's Castle, with the help of Cogsworth, alongside Sora and Mrs. Potts. Lumiere asks "Is this the spot?" before lighting a lamp. He also lights the way in the Dark Hall in Beast's Castle so that Sora can see better in it.

Origin

Lumiere originated from Disney's 1991 animated musical film, Beauty and the Beast. In the film, Lumiere and the other castle's residents were turned into household objects (in Lumiere's case, a candelabra) by an enchantress as punishment for Prince Adam's cold heart. Many years later, Belle's father, Maurice, stumbles in the castle to escape wild wolves, and Lumiere and the other servants warmly welcomes him. However, the prince (now known as the Beast) discovers this and locks Maurice away in the dungeon while Lumiere and the others sadly watch. When Belle comes to the castle in search for her father, Lumiere guides Belle to dungeon to see him. After Belle offers to be the Beast's prisoner in place of her father, Lumiere advises his master to show Belle to her bedroom. On the night that was Belle was supposed to have dinner with Beast, Lumiere and Mrs. Potts attempt to teach Beast how to act like a gentleman, a task that was quite difficult. When Belle refuses to go, she later journeys into the dining room and Lumiere performs a song to entertain her.

Later, Lumiere and Cogsworth provide Belle with a tour of the castle, warning her that she is free to go anywhere but the West Wing. Throughout the rest of the film, Lumiere and the other servants observe Beast and Belle's budding romance, giving them hope that curse will be broken and they will revert back into humans. However, Beast releases Belle so she could go care for her sick father, prompting Cogsworth to inform Lumiere and the others of the sad news. When Gaston (the film's antagonist) storms the castle with angry villagers, Lumiere and the others defend it. Once Beast and Belle confess their love for each other, the curse was broken and Lumiere and the castle's residents transform back into humans. At the ball that was being held to celebrate, Lumiere and Cogsworth got into another argument about who foretold the fact that Belle would break to spell first, which quickly escalates into a brawl.

Lumiere is the French word for "light", apt for his role as a candlestick.
