Kingdom Hearts VR Experience is a Kingdom Hearts game that was developed exclusively for Playstation VR. It was released on January 23, 2019, in Japan and on February 28, 2019, in the United States for free in both regions.

The game initially included only two locations. An update on June 24, 2019 in Japan, and June 25, 2019 in the United States added four additional locations, some of which include support for motion controls.

GameplayEdit

Kingdom Hearts VR Experience is a virtual reality game where the player can view their surroundings through the eyes of Sora or Roxas. Six worlds are available, most of which begin with a diorama recreation of iconic cutscenes from Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts II, and Kingdom Hearts III.

These scenes are then followed up by a light show, with various additional scenes projected on the walls of the viewing area while music plays. These projected scenes are primarily cutscenes, but also include segments of the introductions for Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance and Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-.

The Twilight Town and Olympus Coliseum worlds allow the use of motion controls, for eating ice cream in the former and swinging a Keyblade in the latter.

The Olympus Coliseum world is unique in that it has no recreated cutscene at the start, instead going directly to the projected scenes and light show. Additionally, the player is required to defeat the Heartless in order to progress. The Heartless can be knocked into the air, and the arena will react according to where the thrown Heartless hit the walls.

A Collection menu is available, set inside Sora's Dive to the Heart. Here, the player can flip through Jiminy's Journal to view a short profile, 3D model, and projected scenes for various characters.

TriviaEdit

  • During the Twilight Town segment, the projected cutscenes use Japanese text for Roxas's Winner Stick. However, the Winner Stick held by the player uses English text.
    • Looking at Xion's ice cream shows that it also has a Winner Stick, but it uses Japanese text.
