Take me to your leader

Who is in charge of this? I am just asking, who changes it every month? Cause whoever it is, they are a bit late. Ultima The High Seraph 21:20, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, it was late last month as well, shouldn't we have this done on the first day of the month? Guardian Soul 21:46, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

We should nominate somebody to be incharge of it. Ultima The High Seraph 21:49, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

I'm all for that. Guardian Soul 21:52, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

I've been doing it. I've just been a bit distracted, what with the new fiscal year and the troll and all that jazz. Thank you for reminding me, though. ^_^ BebopKate 05:37, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Make "Forms" its own category

TALK - Friendships are in direct contravention of mercenary conduct as delineated in your contracts, and on a personal note: I am very, very, disappointed with you.
Vsymbol.png It doesn't seem to me like "Characters" covers things like Frankenstein form. Should we make a "Forms" category?

Well, looking at the mirage arena, Forms fit under the characters section. Should we not be consistent? KKDf51ce887-d120-4b89-8cff-afbff03976aa_zps7f114bcc.png

Mirage arena came after Votes for Featured media. So we can change that if we have to. --VenCharm.pngLegoAlchemistVenCharm.png 03:36, September 3, 2010 (UTC)
Much like the Mirage Arena, we allow for all editors to enjoy taking part in selecting the next Featured Media. Akin to the Mirage Arena is the fact that we want diversity in these selections. To force this, we make past categories ineligible for two months, and also "merge" some categories. For example, locations images are classified as world images. Also, all images of a form are directly images of the a character, and can be classified as such. Creating another category just for what I believe will be this one instance is not a reason to make such a hasty decision. Also, a form category would hardly have enough images in it to be classified as such. --DTN Room Core.png 03:48, September 3, 2010 (UTC)

Umm... what Doorsey said. ^_^ KKDf51ce887-d120-4b89-8cff-afbff03976aa_zps7f114bcc.png

A simple "no" would be fine. But thanks anyway ^_~ --VenCharm.pngLegoAlchemistVenCharm.png 04:08, September 3, 2010 (UTC)

Audio Samples

As DTN pointed out this month, many readers may not be able to listen to audio files. Since it is bound to win this month, should the rules be changed in the future to combat this problem? Oh, and DTN, if you read the rules on top, the boxart is still disqualified, as it still falls under the other two categories, technically. KRCCFNF is tired of being STEPPED ON.

Again, no. "Boxart" is its own category under the Featured Media Gallery, which defines the categories that become ineligible and how images are classified. The BBSFM boxart is within the boundaries.
Other than that, I have never seen an audio clip featured on any wiki, the reason being that it is difficult for some viewers to enjoy it. The only solutions I can see are to eliminate audio clips altogether, with this month being an exception if so desired, or to set a limit on how many there can be each year. However, the latter will result in more audio clips being nominated and likely selected, which actually creates a larger issue. --DTN Room Core.png 00:10, December 13, 2010 (UTC)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't most browsers link users to the page wherein they can download the right audio plugin? Soxxeh 12:12am, December 13, 2010 (UTC)
I have the newest plugin installed in Firefox, but it won't work for me anyway. I only voted for the audio because I thought most other users could access it. --Ag (Silver) - 47 107.8682 amu ~Crono Vsymbol1.png 00:40, December 13, 2010 (UTC)
Apparently not, Silva. And DTN, I thought that just because something was in one category didn't mean that it couldn't be included in several others. KRCCFNF is tired of being STEPPED ON.

Canvassing

I have born witness to a possible account of canvassing in the votes for the February 2011 Featured Media. OavatosDK persuaded the general Final Fantasy Wiki's large IRC community to support him. As a result, DrakeClawfang further canvassed in an odd reverse in manner, in which Drake arranged to vote for the Aqua picture in exchange for OavatosDK voting for the latter's nomination on an off-wiki poll. To me, this seems like an unfair exchange to both wikis. Now, months ago, we had the Room Core incident, which was stopped due to canvassing, as can be shown by the chewing-out by Miss BebopKate. If we stopped that image from being Featured Media due to canvassing of votes, we cannot allow an exception to the rule, especially when it was the exact same issue: using #FFWiki to "whore" for extra votes. This is certainly not the first time I have seen a link to this page asking for votes for the Aqua image on this channel either. Counting the nomination, at least two-thirds of the votes are from the FFWiki, and this is supposed to be our Featured Media. Not the trolls' and random followers' who want the image "for teh sexeh."

Discussion at Hand.

However, when I raised the concern on the #FFWiki IRC Channel, it was impossible to reach a conclusion, which I find may possibly be due to different interpretations of the term "canvassing"--just what is it? It can refer to many different types and deviations of "whoring for votes," bribery, and persuasion. If the community of this wiki could settle the issue here on what we are going to define as "canvassing," we can get this all sorted out properly. Thanks!

P.S. DISCLAIMER: I seriously, IN ABSOLUTELY NO WAY, bring this up due to my nomination lacking in votes. I honestly do not care who wins, as long as it remains a fair decision. And to clear up anything, all of the above message from me; everything posted so far in this section is by me. --DTN Room Core.png 06:25, January 19, 2011 (UTC)

I don't ususally vote for the Featured Media, but I'd define canvassing as a direct attempt to solicit votes for something; that is, asking users on their talk pages or the IRC to specifically vote for their nomination. Any sort of bribe or exchange is covered by that, and I specified it being direct for a reason. I don't see anything wrong with having a general message or link on the user's page saying "Hey, vote for what I nomiated". That's advertisement of the vote more than canvassing in my opinion.LapisLazuliScarab07:34, January 19, 2011 (UTC)

ODK asked no one specifically, I offered support and gave it. Frankly I would have supported that image for Featured anyway. A pity, DTN, you didn't post the rest of that conversation, where you lorded your authority over us with an "Admin Cap" and were a general ass about the matter. DoreikuKuroofangu - Visit the Soul Shrine! 12:01, January 19, 2011 (UTC)
Got, I want an Admin Cap."We're werewolves, not swearwolves." (KrytenKoro) 15:03, January 19, 2011 (UTC)
I, for one, think it becomes canvassing when you start going to individuals. If you put up a message in the IRC to cast your vote for Featured Media, I don't see a problem, as long as you aren't pinging anyone. KKDf51ce887-d120-4b89-8cff-afbff03976aa_zps7f114bcc.png
I don't see what the big deal is. Nobody was pinging everybody and demanding votes, and it's not like asking for votes is illegal. Hell, it's encouraged in a lot of things; presidential elections, anyone? Besides, it's not harrasement, and the media in question isn't innapropriate or anything. --Ag (Silver) - 47 107.8682 amu ~Crono Vsymbol1.png 01:09, January 20, 2011 (UTC)
... (1) Drake, I never once even alluded to being a higher power. I'm the equivalent of a worm on FFWiki, and flaunting my status as admin here goes directly against what I have, on several occasions, said about the position not being abused and general equality on the wiki. I merely informed you I was an admin so that I could try and help resolve the issue, giving you someone well-versed in this wiki's policy to confront about the matter with. Albeit a witty brand of creativity, my putting on the "Admin Cap" was merely a way to inform you that I could be of further aid to you in resolving the issue in conjunction with policies this wiki has chosen to follow. If I offended you, I sincerely apologize.

(2) Thanks guys, got all I needed. May voting continue as usual! --DTN Room Core.png 01:53, January 20, 2011 (UTC)

Seems you guys have settled this matter...My (delayed) response since DTN asked for it: First, I have never been up for random users/non-traditional editors to the KHW voting for anything, really... Input on talkpages/discussions? Eh, okay, but only for a different voice on a not-as-serious matter. Voting on featured users/images/articles/staff members/etc.? No. I appreciate the desire to input on matters, but since they aren't regular editors who actually show an interest in this Wiki outside of voting/the community, I don't see any reason why they would could who or what happens to this Wiki. Also, I'm not much for nominating an image with questionable content.

Also, I want to clarify now, for everyone the following: Being a staff member does not mean said staff member is above any other user; we are all users editing a Wiki over something we love. Yes, sometimes the supposed "higher status" does get to some heads- it happens. Even more, some bothering statements/actions can result of such thinking. We've beaten this subject to death with no actual conclusion, to which there probably will never be one. Until a peaceful conlusion/compromise surfaces, I ask any user to ignore any comments/actions made by a staff member who adamantly express their position. Don't take their comments to heart. Copy/paste/save their rants and show it to other staff members. If needed, proper "put in placement" can be done.--Xion4ever 23:03, January 21, 2011 (UTC)

Tiebreaker

Hey the Shade Jelly Family and Sora and Riku in 3D are tied and it's already the 26th. So when's the tiebreaker gonna be? Heartless Emblem.png You made too many wrong mistakes Heartless Emblem.png 16:50, 26 February 2011 (EST)

Hmm... It usually all works out by the first of the next month... If it doesn't, I guess we'll hold a tiebreaker then. Pawprintorange.png Dan - Don't Blink! Pawprintblue2.png 16:57, 26 February 2011 (EST)

Format

So, uh...what exactly are we doing with this? The rules say the ol' one-vote thingy, but everybody is following the new 3-images-a-month (it is 3, right?). Are we really gonna wait for another Roundtable to fix this? --Ag (Silver) - 47 107.8682 amu ~Crono Vsymbol1.png 14:41, 15 July 2011 (EDT)

I assume that if you can nominate 3, you can vote for 3. Erry 14:46, 15 July 2011 (EDT)
I knew that, kinda missed the point there, Erry. --Ag (Silver) - 47 107.8682 amu ~Crono Vsymbol1.png 14:50, 15 July 2011 (EDT)
Well then, if you knew that; you wouldn't be asking this. I'm sure someone will change them to fit the new system. There is no requirement for a roundtable to change something that was already changed anyways. Erry 14:54, 15 July 2011 (EDT)
...huh? I was asking which one was official. Just because everybody is doing something one way doesn't mean that it's the right way we decided on. --Ag (Silver) - 47 107.8682 amu ~Crono Vsymbol1.png 15:14, 15 July 2011 (EDT)
It was changed to the tri-voting system. End of story. Erry 15:32, 15 July 2011 (EDT)
Alright then, thank you for answering the original question. Somebody had their daily dose of bitch-os for breakfast... --Ag (Silver) - 47 107.8682 amu ~Crono Vsymbol1.png 15:40, 15 July 2011 (EDT)

Slight Rule Change

sho21.png
Item_2383.png AS IF! Item_2383.png The world is garbage! CRUNCH!
Okay, this month we have a tie for second place- two images have two votes each. If we went strictly by the rules and used a randomizer, we would have no image for the last third of the month. Therefore, may I suggest this change?
In the event of a tie between two images, we will use a randomizer for the tied nominations. However, if using a randomizer would cause there to be no image in the last third of the month (eg. if there is a tie for second-most votes and no other images with votes), the image that was nominated first will be used for the second third, and the others will be used for the last third.

Is that addition okay?

Well, I wouldn't really add that, it would be implied... sort of. If it doesn't seem to be implied then... uh, try to shorten it a little bit. It seems a little long. Erry 02:57, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

So yeah, the Trinity Limit gif on the front page looks, to be quite honest, bloody terrible. Let's never do that again. --DTN Room Core.png 01:12, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
