TALK - Where's the fun in this?
This question has been bugging for quite some time now: why would Xemnas name Saix his second-in-command. It can't be based on strength since honestly Saix was the only boss in KH2 who had the 13th Dilemma playing during his song that I didn't have trouble with. So honestly it's fairly obvious that Axel, Roxas, Xigbar, Xaldin, Lexaeus, Zexion, Demyx, Marluxia and possibly Luxord are more powerful than him. Then there's also the fact that when he does show his true colors he's a raging psychopath and one can question that wisdom of making a psychopath your second-in-command. So why, why of all the Organization membes Saix is second-in-commnand?

Earthshaker Keychain KHBBS.png This has never been confirmed, and I can only answer via theory. While order of rank isn't made via strength (it's the order they joined), Saix is the final fight before Xemnas. It may have to do with the fact that Saix wasn't apprenticed to Ansem the Wise. One thing that is a sub-confirmed reason is that in 358/2 Days, it is revealed that Axel and Saix were human friends. They had the plan to take over the Organization before Marluxia and Larxene did. They devised a scheme to dethrone Xemnas, and Axel, beginning with the senior members from CoM and KH2, began to taunt and (in Vexen's case), murder them in order to move Saix up through the ranks so this could be done and he could get to Xemnas. After earning Xemnas' trust, Saix would do away with him and he and Axel would rule. Yet since Saix changed after becoming a Nobody into the emotionless berserker we know and love, this plan was abandoned. Saix retained the rank he had earned via his and Axel's old plan, although this time remaining loyal to the Superior. This is a hidden plot mostly fueled by rumors and theory as of yet. It is why Axel and Saix are as hostile towards each other as they are.

That is a good theory but there is a small problem with it. First off since Vexen was the only one Axel actually murdered and Zexion was also executed, neither of them had very high ranks in the Organization as their thrones in "Where Nothing Gathers" indicates. Also there's also the fact that Axel did say so himself that the only reason why he killed Vexen was so that he could earn Marluxia's trust and kill Marluxia himself due to his loyalty to the Organization in one of the most badass quotes of all time ("It was your order, 'You must eliminate the traitor.'" *summon chakrams* And I always obey my orders Marluxia.").

Earthshaker Keychain KHBBS.png I am already aware of this. But this is sub-confirmed info from Days. And if Saix truly is the second strongest (Like I said, he's the only boss after Xemnas), he must've done better than every other member on his missions. That is what determines the height of the thrones. Despite the fact that Saix joined 7th, he had the strength of a second-in-command, regardless of how easy it was for Sora to defeat him. Besides...Saix stands a better chance against the Heartlesss than he does the Keyblade, right?

I dunno 'bout the strength theory. He was the only Organization boss I beat in one try. Also judging by just attacks alone instead of how much I struggled I'd still have to say that Xigbar, Xaldin, Zexion, Marluxia and Roxas are all clearly more powerful than Saix.

Earthshaker Keychain KHBBS.png We're talking about in terms of story, not how easy it was to beat him for you. That is what I meant.
