Umno. -Azul81677 17:29, August 25, 2010 (UTC)

Ah-aawhh...I liked this one.Glorious CHAOS! 20:44, August 25, 2010 (UTC)
Does this really need a category? -Azul81677 20:23, August 26, 2010 (UTC)

I honestly think the "This user is a friend of __________" userboxes should be deleted. Our policy clearly states all userboxes are to be series-relevant. I suppose that would mean deleting the "Humorous" userboxes, but that's a different kettle of worms. The verdict? Delete the friend userboxes and their respective categories. It's not that hard for someone to just make a friends list or a colorful little table displaying friends like mine. That's how I feel, anyways. - Challenge Sigil KHD.pngEternal Nothingness XIIIChallenge Sigil KHD.png 20:27, August 26, 2010 (UTC)

I agree. If no one else objects, this can be baleeted. -Azul81677 20:32, August 26, 2010 (UTC)
I certainly do object. maggosh 20:38, August 26, 2010 (UTC)
Is it that serious ? --Ag (Silver) 107.8682 20:41, August 26, 2010 (UTC)
Why'd this have to be created in the first place? BLUER一番 21:23, August 26, 2010 (UTC)
I object as well. Honestly, it's virtually impossible to have something for the sake of fun on this wiki. KKDf51ce887-d120-4b89-8cff-afbff03976aa_zps7f114bcc.png
Why'd you guys object? It really doesn't make sense. It's telling as if, "hey guys, I have only a few friends in this wiki, and I can only work with these people, the rest I either have neutral feelings for or I hate working with them... so there." BLUER一番 21:50, August 26, 2010 (UTC)
Or, "these people bothered to put my userbox on their userpage." Because, you know, that's how their pages get on this category in the first place. maggosh 21:56, August 26, 2010 (UTC)
Same concept. You want to make a community where everyone works together and this happens.
This wiki isn't Facebook. BLUER一番 22:20, August 26, 2010 (UTC)
I never said it was, nor do I intend for it to be. Just because there are those users in that category doesn't mean I can't work well with other people; you need to read between the lines and stop generalizing. If this is a problem, then why not get rid of the Userbox system altogether? maggosh 22:32, August 26, 2010 (UTC)
EDIT: After some thought, I find this argument ridiculous. Why are we fighting over this? Let's just stop and get back to what really matters. maggosh 22:53, August 26, 2010 (UTC)

I think I'll just make this clear before this turns into a problem. Wikia, to a certain extent, isn't a social networking site. A userpage is about telling another user who they are working with, and how they are working in the project. I've seen categories and userboxes created in this vein and it has to stop.

I'm saying this to remind users that we can all have fun building this wiki, but not overdo it. BLUER一番 15:55, September 12, 2010 (UTC)

Keep the userboxes ; remove the cats, IMHO. Whilst trading friend userboxes can be fun and all, there's also a line to be drawn, n'est-ce pas ? TROISNYX Symbol - Bell.png AMDG 16:09, September 12, 2010 (UTC)
I agree with trois. I only created that category because I saw a few others and thought that was the norm for those Userboxes. Removing the categories sounds like the perfect alternative. maggosh 16:14, September 12, 2010 (UTC)
No. If you want to socialize, friend a user etc, facebook, myspace, friendster and whatever social networking sites out there is yours to abuse. And you can always link to your social network profile in your userpage, provided you know the risks. This wiki isn't made for that, and especially the userpage.
The "Humorous" boxes can stay, they're relevant to our wiki subject, more or less. BLUER一番 16:24, September 12, 2010 (UTC)

Why argue over such a silly little matter? Honestly you guys should just leave the userboxes be and get back to work on what really matters on the wiki.Mikazuki Heart

Indeed. I really don't see why the friend userboxes are so bad for the wiki, so stop worrying about that and do something that is actually useful for the wiki. - LevL 16:55, September 12, 2010 (UTC)

If there's no socialization in the wiki, then this whole gigantic thingie is such an ultimately boring place. File:DL Sprite Ventus Ability 1 KHBBS.png==Pea14733==File:DL Sprite Ventus Ability 2 KHBBS.png 17:03, September 12, 2010 (UTC)

I have a Friend Userbox. But the essence is that I refrain from being a WikiPrincess. Most, if not all the regulars, do it. Yes, I'm able to point out the exceptions. If the socialising bit is getting too out of hand, we take out the categories, but keep the boxes. People have been able to express themselves over the whole thing, and where that alone is concerned, we leave it be. And by the way, FB is a drag. My social network of preference is Twitter. :P TROISNYX Symbol - Bell.png AMDG 02:09, September 13, 2010 (UTC)
Friend categories are going to be removed. As for userboxes, we should be limiting whichever goes to templatespace by the series. We are the Kingdom Hearts Wiki after all. This should also include the parody userboxes. Whichever that goes to a more personal level, like the friend userboxes, are to be hosted on the userspace, this doesn't apply to a wikiwide general info userbox like "This user is male" or "This user speaks Russian". I would like everyone to comply on this. BLUER一番 03:24, September 13, 2010 (UTC)

Question : If Friend Userboxes like LA's and mine are incorporated into our talk templates already ? TROISNYX Symbol - Bell.png AMDG 04:20, September 13, 2010 (UTC)

This is a preferable way for userboxes such as these: User:Dan da Man36/FriendBox. BLUER一番 05:11, September 13, 2010 (UTC)
This is such a hypocritical pile of scatological refuse. There is NO productive essence to userboxes, and the only productive essence to userpages is links to subpages and sandboxes. If you aren't using your userspace for such things, you have no place to argue that things like "Users who are my friend" is a waste of time. It's completely hypocritical to try and say "Well, my userpage is allowed to be 100% time-wasting pap, but you, my friend, you are only allowed to work."
I don't like to cuss, but the only way to describe this is: Bull Shit. This is Bull Shit.Glorious CHAOS! 04:32, September 13, 2010 (UTC)
Very enthusiastic. BLUER一番 10:23, September 13, 2010 (UTC)

Everyone who has a friend userbox please move them per User:Dan da Man36/FriendBox. BLUER一番 10:23, September 13, 2010 (UTC)

I guess I spent too much time on enthusiasm, and not enough in stating my objection. Here goes:
The entire purpose of the userspace is to forge camaraderie between users. If we try to say that it is just for work, then we don't need userboxes at all, and anyone without a sandbox should have their userpages deleted. The very existence of the userspace and userboxes means that we should be using them to foster friendships, and if anything, these types of userboxes are much more useful than the mindless "Look at me, I'm a wikijaguar!" or "I like Final Fantasy" or even better, all the ones based on KH-themed webcomics. These are in fact improvements on placid friends lists, since they allow the possibility of "Hey, maybe they just didn't make a template", rather than "If you're not on here, they hate you." Honestly, the only userboxes we have that could be pure work are the "I beat the game" ones, and that's only if we want to start reverting any edits by people who don't have all of them on their user page. (This is a sarcastic suggestion, by the way)
hey guys, I have only a few friends in this wiki, and I can only work with these people, the rest I either have neutral feelings for or I hate working with them... so there.
This is exactly the opposite of the sentiment expressed by these. The point of these is to show your coworkers that, hey, I really appreciate all you've done for me, enough to design something for you. We've had tons of trouble with editors leaving because, even though we (maybe just me) love them, they feel like no one cares about them, just because no one ever tells them. Asking people to give no recognition is going to result in a deadened wiki where no one wants to work. Hell, I've just barely managed to keep the DMC wiki going by buttering the hell out of the infrequent editors who show love for the series, and telling them how thankful I am that they came to help out. And that's with a series that hasn't had any developments for years - the wiki could actually be completed soon.
I do not think, at all, that we should get rid of userboxes or police userpages. Unlike the blogs, forums, and user talk pages, they
  1. Can't get spammed and clog the RC, by their very nature
  2. Have almost never started any arguments
  3. Have a strong record of improving morale
I mean, no, let's not allow porn, advertising, or other kinds of outright troll-spam on these. But beyond making sure the userspace (as well as the wiki itself) remains safe to read, they should be left to their own devices, encouraging editors to forge their own friendships. Regardless of what wikipedia says, userpages belong to the user, and are their conduit for expressing themselves to their coworkers. I see no reason to hamper that.Glorious CHAOS! 15:07, September 13, 2010 (UTC)
I already made the point that the friend userboxes are staying but they're to be hosted under the userspace. Who's following Wikipedia, anyway, aside from those responsible for bringing its elements here? We're under Wikia, and follow the Wikia Terms of Use. BLUER一番 15:34, September 13, 2010 (UTC)
Why do they have to be hosted under the userspace, and have their categories turned off?
I don't see how these userboxes are in any way not better than our other userboxes.
Re:wikipedia - I was making a general statement comparing practicality to wikipedia's own rules on the userspace.Glorious CHAOS! 15:47, September 13, 2010 (UTC)
Why indeed? Why are our userpages under the userspace? Why is our user discussion page under userspace? It seems obvious enough: that's where it was intended for user content.
Now why do we turn off the categories? Because you don't need them. Not when you host them under the userspace. You can always check "Special:WhatLinksHere" to see the pages that link to the user template. Voila, there's your friend Category. Redundancy. BLUER一番 19:51, September 13, 2010 (UTC)
Okay, so you're saying that all userboxes should be moved into the userspace, and have their categories turned off?Glorious CHAOS! 20:02, September 13, 2010 (UTC)
Also, you do realize that for someone to access the whatlinkshere from the userpage where the userbox is displayed, they'd have to open the page up for editing, then paste the template code into the search bar on the left panel, then click on "whatlinkshere"? And that they'd have to know exactly where the template call was located on the userpage in order to even find it in that way, if they didn't already know the name?Glorious CHAOS! 20:03, September 13, 2010 (UTC)
What I think of this category: [1] Ultima 20:25, September 13, 2010 (UTC)
If you volunteer to do that, sure, good luck figuring out which userbox goes where.
In other words, this concerns the friend userbox. If its about "This user is friends with UserX", UserX can host it in her page.
To access the WhatLinksHere, just place the WhatLinksHere on the userbox when they made it. Our users are good. BLUER一番 20:32, September 13, 2010 (UTC)
...so what makes this userbox so different and awful compared to all of our other userboxes? Why must it function completely differently, and be coded differently?Glorious CHAOS! 22:59, September 13, 2010 (UTC)
And no, I'm not volunteering to do work I don't agree with. You're the one who seems to want this done so badly, it's up to you to do it all or to find others that want to.Glorious CHAOS! 23:00, September 13, 2010 (UTC)
An addendum. I did ask Wikia staff like Uberfuzzy about this, and they're on the opinion that while userboxes are okay, having them and categories linking to specific users can get a bit too excessive. BLUER一番 08:21, September 14, 2010 (UTC)
So we won't abuse this, then.Glorious CHAOS! 12:37, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

Just for clarification, as to what you're proposing then, Bluer:

  1. Standard (gender/browser/language) and Kingdom Hearts related-boxes remain in the main space.
  2. Parodies and Friends would be moved into Userspace.
  3. Completely non-Kingdom Hearts boxes would be hosted directly on a page, with any pictures Photobucketed or the like (such as the ones on my user page). BebopKate 03:39, September 15, 2010 (UTC)
Because in the end, what we're aiming for is for the wikia to be Kingdom Hearts-centric. Remember, we even got very strict with user images. Standard (gender/browser/language) and Kingdom Hearts related-boxes remain in the templatespace. Parodies and Friends would be moved into Userspace, under the user who created it, same goes for completely KH irrelevant boxes, or maybe this should be under case to case basis. BLUER一番 13:28, September 17, 2010 (UTC)
If this will be applied to all non-work userboxes, then that seems fine. However, the categories need to remain. They do no harm, and it is asking too much of the creators to either recode all of them, or make it too difficult for readers to use the userboxes as they were intended.Glorious CHAOS! 14:01, September 17, 2010 (UTC)
Yeeeeeeea-no, the categories need not remain. Some users might need them, but not the wiki as a whole. BLUER一番 14:22, September 17, 2010 (UTC)
...the entire functional purpose of the userbox template is to let you look up other users with the same userbox. YouSane people buy a cow for milk or meat, not to make your farm more monochrome.Glorious CHAOS! 14:29, September 17, 2010 (UTC)
Correction: You don't buy a cow to make your farm more monochrome. --Neumannz, The Dark Falcon 14:35, September 17, 2010 (UTC)
Well, actually, I would. Comment corrected above.Glorious CHAOS! 15:04, September 17, 2010 (UTC)
So we don't have too many categories, could we perhaps compromise between Wikia and the concerns above and have a single category along the line of "WikiFriends?" The parody ones kind of work under this method now, with a Miscellaneous Category, so you can at least see who has a parody box. That way, there's at least a way to see who has linked friend userboxes, even if we don't get more specific. BebopKate 03:58, September 18, 2010 (UTC)

Wait a minute... you mean as in create a separate page for Userboxes/WikiFriends ? I might be wrong... TROISNYX Symbol - Bell.png AMDG 08:27, September 20, 2010 (UTC)
