Forum:Mirage Arena: Should we stay or should we go?

Logo for The Realm of Sleep Forum Archives. I decided to go KH3D and go for a slight magenta/pink accent.

25px-Triforce_%28Ocarina_of_Time%29.png Alright, the fact that we're moving is finalized. However... will the Mirage Arena be moving or not? I, for one, am moving to the new wiki, and I intend to take the MA with me. I can't speak for DS, but I think he's moving... Anyway, your thoughts. I crave them.

Pros/Cons of Staying or GoingEdit

Feel free to add your own pros/cons onto this list.

GoingEdit

ProsEdit

  • Moving the MA will help the new wiki with its google rankings.
  • The MA is a community favourite, it should stay with the community.
  • If the "fansite" wiki really wanted to, they could run their own MA... so it's not much of a loss for them.

ConsEdit

  • Possibility of attracting WikiPrincesses to the new wiki
  • Editcount rule would most likely have to stay

StayingEdit

ProsEdit

  • Editcount rule can be abolished, since the wiki becomes community-driven
  • The many WikiPrincesses drawn in by the Keyblade War can be kept on the wiki, rather then to just have them all flock away after.

ConsEdit

DiscussionEdit

We should move it, why should we have to return to here just to vote? the17master demands Christmas cookies! Nao! 04:14, December 16, 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I also think the MA should move. maggosh 05:29, December 16, 2010 (UTC)

Agreed. It's part of the Wiki. Since the Wiki is moving, it should move also. Anyone staying behind could make a version 2 of it, I guess, if they wanted to........ Though I'd "WTF" if anyone did. Soxxeh 5:31am, December 16, 2010 (UTC)

Before all is set in stone, I have a proposition: once the Wiki does move, let's hold off on moving the Mirage Arena for a while. Not saying this to be permanent, but temporary. Our main priority is to get everything [each and every article, image, category, user page, forum, user talkpages, etc.] settled into our new "home." That alone will take a good amount of time in itself even with a great number of users helping. The last thing we need during this reconstruction period is a pack of Wiki-Princesses spamming the recent changes with optional, not in anyway mandatory who-thinks-I-think competitions. I don't mean to say that the Mirage Arena or other community voting matters aren't fun-even I enjoy them- but I believe we should focus on getting the "new" Wiki set up first, then worry ourselves over optional voting sessions.

Another concern of mine is exactly what was posted in the "Cons" section under "Staying:" Wiki-Princess attraction. This Wiki has had problems with Wiki-Princesses as long as I've been on here, and maybe even before that. With the head-butting we've had with Wiki-Princesses through talkpages in the past, I fear the Arena and Coliseum will bring a whole new group (added to the Wiki-Princesses we already have) to the new Wiki. I'll be frank about this: last thing this Wiki needs is more Wiki-Princesses. They are not helpful in many ways (some do edit, but not enough to cover their Wiki-Princess spamming), and distract others from a Wiki's purpose: to provide information about a specific topic.

To conclude: I propose we avoid taking the Mirage Arena over to the new Wiki at least until most/all of the articles/images/etc. from this Wiki have been moved. And I say again, (should my proposition be approved) this is NOT permanent! This is temporary! I think this is a decent compromise between users who want the Arena to be gone and users who want the Arena to stay. Thoughts?
