So basically, we put that image in the main page, clicking the image will open up our external websites, I've chosen our Twitter page as an example. So clicking the image will direct you to [http://twitter.com/#!/KHWiki here]. Of course, we can also use it for internal links. Also, it doesn't have to be the Door to Darkness, it can be any other door or symbol or something else, like [[:File:Symbol - Heart4.png|the Heart symbol]].
