Synopsis
Back on the Gummi Ship, the trio starts drying the page from Ansem's report. They fax it over to Cid, who thanks the group for their efforts. Cid faxes the group a summary Aerith has prepared. The report begins with a brief history about Ansem, then continues discussing his research and findings on people's hearts, darkness, and the Heartless. The last topic the summary mentions is how Ansem created a machine to artificially create Heartless, branding them with a certain symbol to show their birth origins. The group concludes that Maleficent has found this machine and is abusing it. Suddenly the Gummi Ship lurches; the group has ran into something: a pirate ship.
The scene shifts aboard the pirate ship, where Sora is currently being escorted by two Pirate Heartless. He calls out for Donald and Goofy, only to be asked if they are more important than his old friends. Riku appears, telling Sora he should be more concerned about Kairi. Riku steps aside, revealing the sleeping Kairi. Sora rushes forward, only to be stopped by Captain Hook. Riku explains how he controls the Heartless now, even boasting that his heart is too strong to be taken over by the darkness. Riku shows Sora a new trick, making Sora's shadow a living being. With a snap of his fingers, Sora falls through a hidden trap door- presumably where Donald and Goofy are. Riku orders the ship to carry on, and to keep Sora from contacting Kairi.
