At Disney Castle, Maleficent reveals to Mickey how Master Xehanort once told her of other worlds, as well as of seven hearts of pure light that would enable her to rule them. She explains that the worlds were too complex for her to control, and as such, she decided to go about conquering the worlds in her own manner. Maleficent demands that Mickey give her the world data that comprises the datascape, but when he doesn't comply, she attacks him. Fortunately, this assault is blocked by Lea's Chakrams, which emerge from a corridor of darkness. This catches Pete off-guard and allows Minnie to escape. Maleficent and Pete retreat, and the evil fairy claims that she will return now that she knows where to find what she desires.
At Disney Castle, though expecting Mickey to buy her intent to take Disney Castle as her own again, Maleficent reveals to how Master Xehanort once told her of other worlds, as well as of seven hearts of pure light that would enable her to rule them. She explains that the worlds were too complex for her to control, and as such, she decided to take a different approach via the Datascape for reasons she refused to disclosed. When Mickey refuses to comply, Maleficent attempts to kill him when her spell was blocked by Lea's Chakrams emerging from a Corridor of Darnkess. With a surprised Pete losing their hostage, Maleficent falls back while vowing to get the Datascape.

After Master Xehanort's revival in The World That Never Was, the elderly Keyblade Master reveals that he had manipulated Maleficent to gather the seven hearts of pure light while he set out to gather thirteen seekers of darkness. This was all part of his plan to create the χ-blade.
