:::::An event in a work of fiction being a metaphor for another thing in the fiction isn't a new concept. You can criticize it for being contrived, but that still doesn't make it not part of the "actual" chronology. Your claim that it's never mentioned isn't even correct, as Eraqus repeats "There's more to light than meets the eye." when he confronts Xehanort through Terra, allowing Xehanort to recognize his old friend. The separate character entries are for convenience (all of the major forms of Xehanort get their own entries) and to preserve the "mystery" of the boys' identities.
