Once Riku realised he could "smell" darkness, Mickey sent more of his power to his freind, in the form of a hologram. He made RIku promise to keep fighting and that he would find a way to him soon. (Mickey knew this wasn't the real Ansem, but he didn't tell Riku.)
-Right before Riku goes on to face [[Ansem, Seeker of Darkness|Ansem]], he tries to make Mickey promise to destroy him if Ansem conquers him, but Mickey dismisses it and promises to break through to his power and save Riku. Riku wins the battle, but Ansem tries to trap him in Darkness and Mickey takes him back to the light. Through this experience, Mickey forms a similar friendship with Riku as Donald and Goofy with Sora. Riku even calls him by his name "Mickey" from this point forward.

When Riku used the card, Mickey ended up in the exit hall, where he met [[DiZ]], feeling familiarity with the egnagmatic being. Once DiZ explained the Organization would pursue them after leaving the castle, Mickey was gifted with a black coat specialy made for him; the hood was modified for his ears.
-After leaving the Castle, the King and Riku eventually part ways.
+Before Riku went to slay what remained of Ansem, Mickey promised to rescue him; Riku wanted him to kill him, but Mickey didn't wish to do something so terrible to his freind. Once Ansem was defeated, Mickey saved Riku from the darkness and toke him to the entrance hall on the first floor. Questioning Riku about what he wished to do next, Mickey calmed Riku's concerns about the darkness in him by saying it was his alone. He then explained that time with Riku hs made him change his opinion about darkness; he originaly thought it was something pure evil that shouldn't exist. However, Riku's chosen to use both dark and light, a path he wishes to see be taken; Mickey wants to travel with him to see where the path will take. He then tells Riku that he can call him "Mickey" because they're good freinds now.
+Leaving Castle Oblvion, Mickey met DiZ again, who wished for Riku to choose between the roads of light and darkness. Riku choose neither, opting to walk the Road to Dawn.
+At some point after this, Mickey ended up in [[Radiant Garden]] with Riku. Riku collapsed and he tried to help, but was brushed off. Mickey felt Riku was pushing himself too hard.
+After this, Mickey parted ways with Riku because he sought to eliminat the traces of Ansem left in his heart.
