The Ribbon is an accessory that is found in Kingdom Hearts, and an armor that is found in Kingdom Hearts II. In Kingdom Hearts Final Mix: "Beginner Mode", Sora starts with a Ribbon. In Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, the Ribbon provides 15% resistance to the elements.  That is not all however.

The hidden effect

In kingdom hearts II the Ribbon armour has a hidden effect that is exstremely important in many of the games more difficult fights, which is not mentioned anywhere on the status screen.  Through experimentation it was found that both the Ribbon and the Petit Ribon reduce all damage taken by an additional 20%.  This effect can be further increased by equiping more ribbons.  This means that the resistance values of a single Ribbon are effectively:

  • Fire-36%
  • Blizzard-36%
  • Thunder-36%
  • Dark-36%
  • everything else-20%

This means that Ribbon can reduce damage taken by weapon based attacks (the vast majority of attacks) such as strikes from Clouds buster sword.  No other armour (apart from Petit Ribbon) has this effect, making ribbon arguably the best armour in the game.  With 3 Ribbons equiped one can expect to reduce damage from all elemental attacks by 74% and all other forms of damage by 48%.  This makes surviving powerful weapon based attacks such as Sephiroth's sword combo much easier.  Again remember that no other armour can reduce this kind of damage or reduce damage from elemental attacks by as much as a Ribbon.
