TALK - Here's your cat...and here's your $20...01:39, June 16, 2010 (UTC)
Okay, guys, we need to seriously talk IRC for a second.

I've had a couple of editors report an incident to me that happened this weekend. It involved some skirting the rules, some Ops, and at least one banning. It was also a headache to read, I'll tell you. And it's also far from the first time it's happened, and it's not the only incident we've had.

Just use some common sense, guys: 1. Respect everyone. Simple enough, right? Exception: obvious trolls, which may be exterminated with extreme prejudice. 2. Adults, want to talk about adult topics? That's fine...just create a new channel! It's simple and you don't have to worry about the PG-level rules. 3. Posting stuff in the main room (constantly shouting, "almost" cursing, etc.) just to skirt the rules really isn't funny in the long run. It's a pain to read, and easy to get out of hand. I've watched it happen myself. If someone tells you to stop, stop. 4. Remember this thing we voted on and approved? It's still in effect.

Look, I don't want to run around policing IRC; I know the rest of the Ops don't either. But if this continues to happen, we're going to have to toughen up the rules and remove Ops who abuse the policies. And if it really gets out of hand, we might even have to close the channel altogether; I really don't want to see that happen. I've enjoyed the chats in there, and I know many others who have as well. Just use a little common sense and common courtesy when in IRC.
