It is a follow-up to Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX, and includes a full HD remastered version of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, entitled Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD as well as a followup chapter to Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, entitled Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage-, which follows Aqua's journey in the Realm of Darkness. Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage-
The collection includes a new playable episode using the Kingdom Hearts III base engine and set immediately after Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. The story is told from Aqua's perspective to set up the events of Kingdom Hearts III.[1]

The collection includes a new cinematic movie, similar to the Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days and Kingdom Hearts Re:coded movies in the previous collections, which details the story of the mysterious Foretellers during the events of Kingdom Hearts χ.
