I don't ususally vote for the Featured Media, but I'd define canvassing as a direct attempt to solicit votes for something; that is, asking users on their talk pages | I don't ususally vote for the Featured Media, but I'd define canvassing as a direct attempt to solicit votes for something; that is, asking users on their talk pages or the IRC to specifically vote for their nomination. Any sort of bribe or exchange is covered by that, and I specified it being direct for a reason. I don't see anything wrong with having a general message or link on the user's page saying "Hey, vote for what I nomiated".
