Reality Shifts (リアリティシフト Riariti Shifuto?) are a gameplay element introduced in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. It involves swiping the stylus of the Nintendo 3DS across the bottom screen or tapping in certain areas on the bottom screen. When a Reality Shift is initiated, Sora or Riku will jump and dive down into the bottom screen through a circular portal. Each World has its own Reality Shift relating to a certain element within that World.

Slingshot

Slingshot (スリングショット Suringushōtto?) is the Reality Shift of Traverse Town, it involves Sora or Riku becoming a bubble and "slinging" either an enemy or an object in that bubble across into the top screen. Once in the top screen they fly into the air and land back down in an explosion. The player must drag the bubble with the stylus in order to execute the Reality Shift.

Slingshot is also used in the Post Office area to fling large present boxes against other present boxes to unveil Treasure Chests.

Holy Rope

Holy Rope (ホーリーロープ Hōrīrōpu?) is the Reality Shift of La Cité des Cloches, it involves Sora or Riku to make a rope with Light that is connected in points which are Dream Eaters. Sora or Riku will slide on the rope via Free Flow Action and "hit" Dream Eaters once in contact with them. The player must drag the white line with the stylus from point to point in order to execute the Reality Shift.

Holy Rope is also used within the Chapel to traverse the large map, it is also found in various other maps to use to traverse those locations too, there is also a Nightmare variant that falls under the same name that allows Riku to damage the Bullet Gargoyle and gain immunity for a limited time.

Code Break

Code Break (コードブレイク Kōdo Bureiku?) is the Reality Shift of The Grid, it involves Sora or Riku to find certain words of the same color in the bottom screen that will give them certain powers or advantages in the upper screen. For example, "SWITCH TARGET" will allow the Dream Eater, Black Guard or turret to attack with you for a certain period of time. The player must tap the words or letters on the bottom screen in order to execute the Reality Shift.

  • SWITCH TARGET: Causes the enemy or turret to fight with or for you.
  • MOVING SPARK: Allows you to take control of the enemy and cause an explosion.
  • PRIZE SHOT: Causes the turret to shoot an enemy to drop an Item or Command.
  • PRIZE BOX: Causes the enemy or turret to drop an Item or Command.
  • AUTO DESTRUCT: Blows up the turret
  • DISC JAMMER[1]
  • ENERGY JAMMER[2]
  • TRANSPORT[3]
  • UNLOCK[4]

Popping Bubble

Popping Bubble (ポッピングバブル Poppingu Baburu?) is the Reality Shift of Prankster's Paradise, it involves Sora or Riku to trap a Dream Eater in a bubble. Then in the upper screen the bubble can be moved around to envelop more Dream Eaters within it. The player must aim at the Dream Eater in order to execute the Reality Shift.

Popping Bubble is also used to withhold Monstro within a bubble during the battle with the Kinkin Lobster, and to land the final strike against it.

Wonder Comic

Wonder Comic (ワンダーコミック Wandā Komikku?) is the Reality Shift of Country of the Musketeers, it involves Sora or Riku to do attacks in the bottom screen with Mickey, Donald and Goofy. There are 3 types of attacks: a dual slash attack, a boxing glove-in-a-box and a swirling attack. The player must successfully follow the arrows in order to execute the Reality Shift.

Wonder Comic is used as a way to battle Pete and the Beagle Boys, a Reality Shift is used on each of the Beagle Boys to fling them at Pete, and again on Pete himself to end the battle.

Fantasmic

Fantasmic (ファンタズミック Fantazumikku?)[5] is the Reality Shift of Symphony of Sorcery, it involves Sora or Riku to tap notes or follow notes with the stylus. Doing so will conjure up to four fireworks to go from the bottom screen to the top screen and damage Dream Eaters. The player must tap the notes in time and follow them with the stylus in order to execute the Reality Shift.

Fantasmic is used when prompted by various wine fountains across Symphony of Sorcery, they are often used to allow passage to further areas in the World, such as the rainbows in Sora's portion of the World.

Nightmare Break

Nightmare Break (ナイトメアブレイク Naitomea Bureiku?) is the Reality Shift of The World That Never Was, it involves Sora to swipe all pods in the bottom screen with a Keyblade, then a hologram of Riku and a second Keyblade will appear to attack Dream Eaters or unlock devices with Sora. The player must successfully swipe all pods in three or less swipes in order to execute the Reality Shift.


Mirage Split

Mirage Split (ミラージュスプリット Mirāju Supuritto?) is the Reality Shift of The World That Never Was, it involves Riku to swipe all pods in the bottom screen with a Keyblade, then a hologram of Sora and a second Keyblade will appear to attack Dream Eaters or unlock devices with Riku. The player must successfully swipe all pods in three or less swipes in order to execute the Reality Shift.

Spirit Rope

Spirit Rope (スピリットロープ Supiritto Rōpu?) is a special Reality Shift in The World That Never Was, it is completely identical in function. However the actual "rope" used in this Reality Shift is a rope made of connecting Spirit Dream Eater Symbols. It only appears for Riku, additionally being triggered at a Spirit Komory Bat.
