You are first introduced to {{Wtext|Bug Blox|e}} by {{Wtext|Selphie|e}}. After the cutscene, talk to her again to start a side quest, where you must destroy a number of Blox. Then, go west to find Wakka and he'll ask you to destroy a {{Wtext|Rare Prize Blox|t}} on a floating platform of {{Wtext|Metal Blox|e}}. Do so to obtain a {{Wtext|HP+ 2|i}} chip and learn about new block types. Install your newly-gained chip into your Stat Matrix and report back to {{Wtext|Wakka|e}}. He will now ask you to find {{Wtext|Tidus|e}}, who is on the small island out-shore. Jump above the sea-shack to trigger a cutscene, where the cloaked man returns. Afterwards, you'll need to locate your first "backdoor". This one is located in the part of the wall where the cloaked man walked into. Once you've found the portal, enter it and you'll be introduced to the concept of {{Wtext|System Sectors|l}}. To complete this one, just defeat all the enemies and then redeem your rewards.

You are introduced to Bloxes by Selphie. Talk to her again to start a side quest and start destroying bloxes. Go to the west and find Wakka. He will ask you to destroy one special blox on the platforms. Do so to get a HP+2 chip and be introduced to types of bloxes. Install the chip in your Stat Matrix and report back to Wakka. He will ask you to find Tidus who is on the small island outshore. Jump above the hut to trigger a cutscene and then go to that wall where that man in black disappeared into to find a Backdoor. You'll be introduced to System Sectors and things related. Just defeat all the enemies.

Afterwards, you'll need to go to the cave near the waterfall. But before that, immediately to your left, there is a {{Wtext|Rare Prize Blox|t}} so destroy it to obtain a {{Wtext|Fire|w}} command. By now you should have broken a fair number of Blox, so report back to {{Wtext|Selphie|c}} about her mini-quest. If you've broken enough, you'll be rewarded a {{Wtext|Defense +1|i}} chip and if not, just break more and then return. Next, go to where Wakka is, then go further to the west until you see a normal {{Wtext|Prize Blox|t}}. Start going up the small pathway to your right, climb up the ladder and then go a bit further until you'll see a {{Wtext|Rare Prize Blox|t}}. Break it to obtain a {{Wtext|Blank Chip|i}}. Now that you are done with everything, save and go to the cave near the waterfall. After some cutscenes, you'll face the game's first boss!

|strategy=This boss is divided into three stages. In the first stage, the Darkside has only a few attacks. When he punches the ground, attack him, and if Blox are summoned, break the Prize Blox for extra Score Prizes. Use Dodge Roll to avoid his energy orb attack. In the second stage, when he punches the ground, you are given an opportunity to break three Blox attached to his arm, to briefly stun him. Use Dodge Roll to avoid the streams of Blox he releases. In the third stage, Dodge Roll around the area until the swarm of Blox stop moving and reveal their core. Attack the core during this time. Avoid its jumping attack with Dodge Roll. You can also destroy the Danger Bloxes with Fire command to get more score.

The first quest requires you to retrieve a {{Wtext|Life Preserver|i}}, which is redeemed from {{Wtext|Destiny Islands|l}}: {{Wtext|System Sector|l}} B for 8000 SP, and the reward is a {{Wtext|Feather Chain|a}}. The second required you to retrieve a {{Wtext|Jump Rope|i}}, which is redeemed from {{Wtext|Destiny Islands|l}}: {{Wtext|System Sector|l}} C for 18000 SP, and the reward is a {{Wtext|Gravity Drop|w}}. The final quest requires you to retrieve a {{Wtext|Folding Fan|i}}, which is redeemed from {{Wtext|Hollow Bastion Part II|l}}: {{Wtext|System Sector|l}} A for 1500 SP, and the reward is a {{Wtext|Shock Fall|w}}.

At {{Wtext|Scan|w}} Level 2, you can detect a new {{Wtext|System Sector|l}} that's backdoor is located near the tree house. Its challenges are fairly straightforward although it has challenges requiring you to not take damage. Using ranged attacks like magic instead of attacking with the {{Wtext|Keyblade|w}} avoids the chance of getting hit. After three floors, you can redeem rewards:
