Disney Castle Trailer KH.png

In the process of developing a video game, many ideas are discarded as unworkable for one reason or another. However, if the idea makes it far enough into the development process, aspects of it can be still be found within the code of the released games, or it may show up in trailers or interviews with the developers.

A plethora of this removed content in the Kingdom Hearts series has surfaced, and has been found in Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Kingdom Hearts II, and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. Content that discarded during the production of this game includes Disney Castle and a new stage of Destiny Islands in Kingdom Hearts, plans for a Deep Jungle world in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, a Pinocchio-based world in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, new forms for Xemnas in Kingdom Hearts II, and models for Pleakley from Lilo and Stitch and the Kingdom Key D in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. Deep Dive 01 KHFM.png

Another side, Another story... is the secret ending of Kingdom Hearts, and the first one of the series. It was later expanded in Kingdom Hearts Final Mix's secret ending, Another Side, Another Story [deep dive].

A hooded Roxas walks through the Dark City in the pouring rain. He stops, feet away from the base of Memory's Skyscraper. Roxas looks up at the screens; shortly after, his head shifts down as many Neoshadows rise up from the ground and surround him. A blindfolded Riku, wearing a Black Coat, stands on top of Memory's Skyscraper and stares down at Roxas. Roxas draws the Oathkeeper in his left hand and Oblivion in his right. He spins the Keyblades above his head, yielding sparks, and holds them out to his sides. Riku tilts his head up to the sky and holds his arms out; the clouds above the Skyscraper part to reveal a meteor shower. A white-purple outline of the Heartless emblem surrounds Roxas. Riku takes off his blindfold and throws his head back. Roxas mouths something.

100 Acre Wood Logo KH.png

The 100 Acre Wood, also written as Hundred Acre Wood, is an optional world based on the fictional locale of author A. A. Milne and Disney's twenty-second animated feature, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

It is special in both Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II as a world within a world, because it is entered through a book in Traverse Town and Hollow Bastion/Radiant Garden, respectively. The world is contained within a magical book that Merlin keeps with him, and as Sora collects Torn Pages, the lost areas of the world are revealed as the story is retold. (more....)

Gummi Mission 01 KHFM.png

The Gummi Ship is the main method of transportation between worlds in the Kingdom Hearts series. Several characters and factions, including King Mickey, Sora, the Heartless and Nobodies, use Gummi Ships to move between Worlds. These ships are made entirely of Gummi Blocks, made of special Gummi material that allows to travel between Worlds. Gummi Ship travel is a slower, but more reliable alternative to warping by using a Corridor of Darkness. Although Gummi travel seems to have originated with King Mickey, it is now mostly handled by his loyal subjects Chip and Dale, as well as Radiant Garden refugee Cid and Pinocchio's father, Geppetto. Gummi Ships are constructed of the meteors that assumingly fall upon the world as a result of its door being opened, as noted in the Ansem Reports by Ansem, Seeker of Darkness. King Mickey was the first to create a Gummi Ship. (more....)
