TerraCharm.pngGiven my beef with fan-posed images, I feel like we should re-upload the official image to the Wiki, and at the very least, make the fan-posed version Shard uploaded a separate file. Any objections?
It's not "fan-posed", this render uses an actual ingame animation, it's the same as using a cropped screenshot. I uploaded it over the "official" image because this one is merely a placeholder and not depicting Shadow Roxas in any shape or form. If it really bothers you that much revert it, but there is really not need for a separate images that isn't used anywhere. --ShardofTruth 15:44, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
If you made the image, then technically it's "fan-ANYTHING." I agree with you that this image does a better job at illustrating what Shadow Roxas is, but I feel that Square Enix's material always should go above and before our own personal preferences. - Challenge Sigil KHD.pngEternal Nothingness XIIIChallenge Sigil KHD.png 18:23, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
If it's using an in-game animation, I wouldn't be willing to call it fan-posed -- Shard is ripping a model that exists in the game, as it exists in the game. I think it's much more problematic to treat the fan-made poses such as Sora doing a funny walk as if they were official -- this here is basically a more powerful screenshot."We're werewolves, not swearwolves." Hence I suggested we separate the files. I am in full agreement that Shard's rip is better. But I also do not think we should ignore the existence of the official render, no matter how crappy it looks. - Challenge Sigil KHD.pngEternal Nothingness XIIIChallenge Sigil KHD.png
I really get where you're coming from ENX but I think your line between official and unofficial is way too strict. Take the Xemnas Dragon Form for example, as far as we know there is no official render available (not even in the Memorial Ultimania), they just use screenshots, we don't. The same is true for the Marluxia 2nd and 3rd form images, whereas we also use screenshots but at least I used one cheat to hide the HUD, another to move the camera a bit more freely and finally rendered the game at a higher resolution not available on the original PS2.
Square Enix does exactly the same but they often go one step further, posing the renders in ways that are never seen in the games and even retouching them, removing minor flaws and adding more detail where there was none before. You can see that very clear on the Riku Dark Mode render that I've uploaded two times here, first from the KH Ultimania and then from the KHIIFM Ultimania.
What I'm trying to say is that these images not always exactly reflect the games which they are from and while that's okay if SE does it, you could always argue that it's not okay if we do it. Honestly I wouldn't even argue here if the Shadow Roxas render was something significant but as the screenshots of the Xemnas' Dragon and Marluxia's form I think it's merely a placeholder. --ShardofTruth 20:03, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
I have to agree with ENX here for one reason: the two images are vastly different. It makes sense to have them represented as different files and exist at the same time in the galleries and wherever else we use the images. Regardless of whether one is more official or not, the two images are so different that we ought to represent both, one for being from the Ultimania, the other for being more correct in representing the content. It's what we do with different poses of the same character, no? Diamond Dust Keychain KHFM.pngKeybladeSpyMaster Diamond Dust Keychain KHFM.png 20:22, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
Yes, the two images look vastly different. One is an exact representation from the game while the other is just the silhouette of the normal Roxas render with a blurry background. The reason I uploaded it here in the first place is because we had a very blurry screenshot before, I was scanning the KHII Ultimania at this time and I didn't know as much about the model and animation files of the games as I do now. I'm not even sure where it's okay to present "unofficial" images according to our policy at the moment, surely not in the galleries so I don't see a point in splitting the image. --ShardofTruth 20:46, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
